Well, “the loner with the bad golf swing” is suspended for 30 days for ignoring mod instructions and for a history of general bad posting attitudes. He had two (count them, two) threads corn-fielded, all unbeknownst to us.
It’s interesting to me how some posters can join and post for a while, and although they may rub a few people wrong, they don’t get a reputation or draw attention in this thread. Then one day something seems to change, they are mentioned here, and suddenly other posters realize what a jerk that poster can be, and pretty soon they are careening off a cliff. I confess to not understanding this phenomenon very well.
I saw the assassination thread. I don’t know how many others flagged it besides me, but it was fucking bizarre. Although the guy’s given off crackpot vibes for a while, this was way over the line of propriety.
I think he is, and always has been a troll. And probably a sock as well.
Just for the record, by the way, if you ever suspect that someone is the sock of some other specific name, please let us mods know about that, and why you think it. We have various ways to check, but it’s a lot easier to compare two specific people than to compare someone to everyone who’s ever been banned. This is especially true when (though I haven’t seen this recently) folks say “…And we all know whose sock he is”. No, we don’t all know: If we did, they would already be banned.
On the other hand, if it’s just “He’s probably a sock because trolls like him usually are”, well, possibly, but not very useful for us (we probably already have similar suspicions).
There was quite a lot of speculation about them in this thread a ways back. They seemed to be trying very hard to ‘fit in’ in ways that did not resemble a new poster. I think there was a strong feeling that they were indeed a sock, but maybe (most minor possible benefit of the doubt) one trying to rehabilitate themselves rather than trolling. And comments were made about the timing.
But, as has been pointed out before in this thread, serial socks, even if they start out sane, tend to keep pushing until they can’t be ignored.
Almost as if they are disappointed by the amount of attention they can get from just being a regular poster.

Doesn’t seem like a troll. Has posts in other threads that are pretty normal. Maybe a bit conservative (and with some of the blindspots that brings) but that doesn’t make one a troll.
It’s anti-Labor, and stupid as well. That makes them a troll in my book. YMMV, obviously. In any case, I won’t be seeing any of their posts in the future.
I don’t see anti-labor and stupid as trollish. It’s at best ignorant (and maybe even correctable) and at worst pig-headed. But I don’t see it as being deliberately inflammatory.
Some people have a narrow view and limited knowledge of the purpose and history of unions. It’s not uncommon for people to see them as being solely about safety, and unaware of all the other ways that people are exploited by organizations. And there is the mistaken belief that acting is inherently safe, void of danger, when in reality unions go to great pains to make things as safe as they can and people still get hurt and even killed during filming and preparation for filming.
That’s not on the level of “so wrong you are either being deliberately offensive or you’re beyond hope”, the way antivax or flat earth or Q folks are.
Not to mention, not all unions have been so great.
“Troll” doesn’t mean “People I don’t like”. You seem to be using the word the same way some Republicans use the word “woke”.
