Trolls R Us Resurrections

That’s a surprisingly well-reasoned argument… for a comment on a message board.

Says the commenter on a messageboard.

It’s messageboard comments all the way down.

This is all getting too Facebook for me.

Only on da Dope could the conversation have taken such a turn! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

One of the things I love about this place…!

The JFK assassination files thread in GD features some stellar entries by Omniscent and PozhanPop.

Since the thread is closed, I’ll go ahead and link it -

Is is me, or is the OP Beanz showing all the signs of a Trock? One day join, 18 posts read, starts a blatantly whataboutism charged political thread as nearly their first action?

ETA - just saw that he’s been suspended as well . . . seems I’m not the only one with suspicions.

No clue if they’re a trock, but I’m pretty confident they were trolling. I assumed the thread closure was basically a warning shot. The mods do that sometimes.

Or it could have been just all the mod present at the time could do before discussing it in the loop.

That’s precisely what they do with trocks. It will be a full ban once the mod loop votes thumbs down.

Since I can no longer comment in the closed thread, I will assure you nobody calls it “CHAZ”. That’s a term a few people have used, but you almost never hear it; it is basically always called “CHOP” (Capitol Hill Organized Protest). I live less than an hour from where it took place so trust me, I heard about it on a daily basis for a while, and the ripples from those protests affected me personally. (Roads closed down, being told to evacuate the office where I work or not allowed to go in, businesses I frequent getting damaged, and so on.)

So even the choice to call it CHAZ seems pretty fishy to me. Calling it by an obscure term is almost surely intentional.

Either way it was a really, really shitty attempt at whataboutism. If you want a clearer parallel in this area to what happened on January 6, then look at the Trump supporters who stormed the governor’s mansion while the US Capitol was being attacked.

Of course, that wasn’t nearly as impactful as what happened in DC, they didn’t get any farther than the front yard, but it was basically the same crowd trying to do the same thing at the same time.

Anyway, yeah Beanz was certainly full of them.

Hmm, so you suspect the trock was connected to the old discussion somehow?

In the mentions of it that I’ve seen on Reddit and elsewhere have often refered to CHAZ. I see now that CHOP might be a more common term but Wikipedia has both, so I don’t believe your assertion that ‘CHAZ’ is particularly obscure. It certainly doesn’t agree with my own experience. There may also be a difference between what locals and non-locals use.

Plenty of articles about it can still be found using CHAZ as a search term. I think the reason CHAZ might not used (as much) anymore is because the Autonomous Zone doesn’t exist, so it would be inaccurate to still keep using it, but when it did it was (much more) widely known and used IMO. CHAZ was an actual place and CHOP is a protest.

This is just my own experience though. Maybe it’s atypical. :man_shrugging:

No, that CHAZ was in no way obscure and was in fact widely used.

I live there and I’ve only heard CHOP. CHAZ just seems weird to me. Searching online, it seems that CHOP is the more common term and likely took over from CHAZ (though I see one article that suggests it happened the other way around).

I was wondering if there was a deliberate attempt to use the scarier “autonomous zone” than the more common and less intimidating “organized protest” terminology. But maybe it’s not as obscure as I thought, even though again I never hear the term CHAZ in local media and don’t remember hearing it once even as the events were occurring.

Here’s The Seattle times:

FWIW I live nowhere near Seattle and my news sources don’t skew to the right, and “CHAZ” comes to mind before “CHOP” when I think of the event.

Can we move on from this tangent?

No Can Haz Tangent?

(Sorry.)

(not)

NOT trolling*, but pointing it out here because we’re a jaded bunch who can appreciate brief glimpses of coolness: check out post 25 in the “Newton a fraud” thread in IMHO. No hints because I don’t want to spoil the surprise.

* I guess it could still be a troll, but I sincerely believe it’s real.

And in classical Doper fashion, the answer to his first post is a nitpick (by GreenWyvern)…
