Can I please say though that if you want to call out a troll, either flag them, or if they’re still at the “(im)plausible deniability” stage, trash talk them here? I and the others really don’t want to have to give a note or worse, a warning to someone who is attacking the poster, not the post outside the Pit, especially if it’s for someone who may well be gone soon.
(this is not even a mod-nudge, this is just me asking you fine folks to not hurt yourselves when the inevitable urge to poke with a stick arises, and -this- thread is the place to poke 'em)

Ah, yes, the trolly problem. How do you get one trolley to kill as many trolls as possible when there is a split track followed by 5 trolls on one path versus 1 on the other? You leave the switch in an intermediate position to cause the trolley to derail, turn sideways, and wipe out the trolls on both tracks.

That was my thought too. Look at their activity and be amazed.
Due process, of course, but no one here is going to be surprised by the outcome.
The post is consistent with their activity way back when. Could be somebody who was googling for a place to talk about this specific topic (happens all the time here) and either remembered their account or were reminded when they tried to register with their existing email address.
Still, I think the expected outcome for “account reactivated solely to gloat/argue about a political issue” is a lot of anger followed by a “this is why the SDMB is dying!” followed by either death by mod or an explicit request to be banned.
Or they go back to not posting again and it was effectively a semi-random drive-by. We get a lot of those.
I recall 2-4 years ago we had some long-ago malcontent pop up, announce that it had been x years since their last post, and they didn’t much care for the ideas in some thread just then. Got pretty indignant about how stupid we all were. Evidently our topic had triggered their pet hobby horse & somehow they found it amidst the vastness of the internet.
I swatted 'em pretty hard since the thread they trashed was in the Pit. The said they’d be back in a few years to bitch about something else on this very shitty & mean messageboard we had.
Good riddance says I, even it is just temporary riddance for very slow-moving values of “temporary”.
Even better, flag them even if they are still at the plausible deniability stage. We mods have access to more information about posters than ordinary members do, and some of us are very good at recognizing the distinctive tells of some of our repeat offenders, so even if the post you’re reporting isn’t quite enough by itself, we might still be able to ban them.
