It just occurred to me that maybe somebody might be in the business of using a bot to create accounts, and then holding on to them to sell to spammers or whomever wants them.
One serial troll we used to have (I think we eventually got rid of it for good, mostly by this board’s collective attention span being a quarter-century long and counting) once created 26 sock accounts at once, one for every letter of the alphabet.

Not saying redpoint5 is a troll, sock, or trock, but account created in 2008 and has very interesting boards stats. Some of their posts have made me think “don’t feed the troll”.

As always, if you see behavior that violates board/forum rules, please flag it for review. It’s been understandably busy with current events, and there’s plenty of stuff we can miss in the mast postings. But you folks were going to do that anyway I’m sure.
Ref that advice I just flagged a post by clu-me-in that was a reply to something I wrote almost 2 years ago. As I said in the report:
This poster’s account history and recent behavior has some indicia of a long-dormant sock / troll. This post in and of itself is innocuous.
Their other posts also have that “Why now, and why these threads?” smell to them.

For the record, it was originally clu-me-in’s thread, though coming back to it after two years feels strange you and me. But they also seem to just drop in once every year or so and start a very vague/undetailed thread and that’s about it. So possibly a false positive - but I’ll leave that to the mods of that forum.
And already garnered a mod note for implied insulting of posters in P&E.

Even in the calm and dispassionate “What happens when we run out of SS numbers” thread he keep blandly asserting IT nonsense while claiming to be an IT person and somehow not reading or at least not comprehending any of the replies aimed at him. Gives the posting equivalent of the autistic blank face blinking then repeats himself.
I was trying to get some info out of the poster, without either baiting them or feeding them. But I figured their answer would tip their hand a bit, and I think it did.
It worked out perfectly. I just wish others would stop baiting and feeding them.
I just wanted to pop in and thank all the posters reading this thread (as well as those who stay out of it) for in general being good about flagging questionable posts and posters and otherwise not engaging in a way that derails the threads. No shade thrown at @Atamasama for trying sincerely to get a poster to explain their POV either.
