Trolls R Us Resurrections

I believe that geese are capable of doing that.

If I’m being Frank, that is.

Hi, Frank!

Why would anyone give a name to a wooden leg, and if so why “Meep”? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

If you don’t name your wooden leg, how are you going to call it to come to you when you’re not wearing it? I would think that would be obvious.

Wood it?

Eh.

I had to ship up to Boston to find mine.

What, my friend with a wooden leg named Smith?

And I know a muppet.

Since I never visited the thread, I’m not qualified to say how the conversation was progressing, but the fact that it’s now in the cornfield suggests “not well”. I called it “stupid” because the title alone, coupled with the lack of any established credibility by the OP, struck me as a poisoned well.

It was.

(IMHO)

And I know of her:

(Probably pronounced the same.)

Nope. Threads by trocks are cornfielded as a matter of policy without regard to their merit or lack thereof. Salt their fields, burn their cattle, bury their buildings, and destroy all records of their birth, death, and offspring.

This is pretty much correct.

As it was a pretty active thread and drawing a fair amount of flags, I left it closed for 5 hours before sending to the cornfield. I want people to know what happened. So a little different than normal where threads started by a troll are immediately cornfielded.

BTW: He tried coming back almost immediately, so that profile also got banned. Didn’t even get to complete the registration.

However, your contrarianism aside (do you just not like dogs? ) @Atamasama agrees that the thread was a poisoned well from the start. Apparently you did, too:

@wolfpup, you wrote:

@LSLGuy was just correcting that bit and he is correct. The Cornfielding had nothing to do with the quality, just the rules we have concerning Troll threads.

In hindsight it clearly was poisoned. As you say and as I said. I almost included that discussion based of the last half of your previous post in my previous post, but I could not make the transition sound right, so I abandoned it.

So here it is now:

But even poisoned wells often have the germ of a legit debate, once you restate it on level, not tilted, ground. It’s also true that, trocks aside, a badly poisoned GD thread is often locked, not cornfielded, with the OP or other participants admonished / invited to try again, but this time as a good faith topic with a neutral opener.

I suspect this topic could be given that treatment. Just not by the now-invisible trock.

My own attempt at a neutral statement of the problem would run something like this:

How can the Democratic party advance the general goal of racial, sexual, and economic equality as a party platform without triggering fears from the current dominant racial, sexual, and economic group(s) that they personally will be practical losers from policies they recognize intellectually are more egalitarian and hence morally superior to current reality?

Thanks for chivvying me to revisit the issue.

ETA: Fair disclosure; I was still reworking / expanding this post as @wolfpup responded below. So it’s unclear which version he last saw.

OK, I acknowledge that the fact that the thread was disappeared is a reflection of the troll OP and not a reflection of its quality. But we also have input from a few posters who did visit the thread who believed that, independently of that, it was a shitty thread which my instincts said “Do Not Enter”.

Also, I’m still not sure that you don’t have a bias against canine posters!

I agree that it was poisoned, and I agree that it was a shitty thread. But I also agree:

And that thread had a potential for discussion in it, except that the trock in question was very tendentious (Wikipedia term there) in replying to just about every post to push its (apparently AI-driven) POV. I did leave a reply in that thread, but it was as much disparaging that trock and the idea it was trying to push as it was an attempt to really get involved in the discussion. And when I saw how people were being responded to, I definitely had no interest in posting again in it.

Imagine starting a discussion over, for example, whether or nor a toilet seat in a house should default to being up or down, and then insisting it should be left up, and then replying to each person (in a civil manner) to either thank them for agreeing, or to emphasize why they should agree with you. It’s almost like being a sealion, except without the tired practice of bombarding people with questions. It’s still in the same spirit. It’s more like being an overeager, yappy (but terribly polite) puppy.

Anyway, regardless of the merit of the topic, that thread was garbage, the trock was the reason for that, and it’s good that it’s gone (well, at least that particular login is gone).

I saw the thread, and even opened it once before quickly deciding that the thesis implied by the title wouldn’t stand up to scrutiny.

So, is anyone going to revive the topic with a non-well-poisoning OP (and thread title)?

Hardly seems worth it, there are some better variants already out there anyway.

The subject that was disappeared was in theory trying to convince centrists/independents that a Republican Strategy Big Lie was indeed a lie.
