Your first comma there is incorrect, because it separates two independent clauses. Use either a period* or a semicolon. Trust me, I am a certified commantator. Anyway, this stupid digression is a pain in the umlaut.
* - Or as the Germans delightfully refer to it, der Punkt. This has migrated to English in the expression of someone whose fun is abruptly terminated when they discover they have been the victim of a practical joke: “I have been Punkt”.
