I bought a book that also came with an ebook download. I went to the site and entered the activation code. The page displays a horizontal ‘barber pole’ (i.e., it’s not actually showing progress) and ‘Personalizing your copy of FAR/AIM 2011. This process generally takes about 10 seconds.’ It’s been like that for half an hour. Same thing happened when I tried Friday night.
What could be the issue? Server down? If so, shouldn’t I get a time-out? Large file? The book is fewer than 1,100 pages. Not compatible with Macs? It’s a .pdf file, and any ‘personalization’ would be on their end.
Did you try a different browser?
Also, make sure Java and Javascript are turned on.
I seriously doubt that an 1100 page book will download in 10 seconds. It should take some time. I use a free product called NetWorx to measure download speed. If you had this you could verify the download speed and perhaps understand what is happening. Of course, if the download is not running, you can see that as well.
I also agree with making sure scripting is being allowed in your browser.
It’s still telling me it will take about 10 seconds.
Java and Javascript are turned on in Safari.
I’ll quite and try Firefox.
Firefox doesn’t appear to be working either.
You should contact the site owners.
Could be trying to open a popup window to initiate the download, and your browser is blocking the popup.
Nope.
I’ll call the publisher tomorrow.
