If I print one copy of something, it’s fine.
If I print two copies of something, I get two copies of 2 - which is four total copies. WTF? Is there a setting somewhere I have screwed up? I don’t need exponential multiples of my print jobs!

How many places are you telling the PC to print two copies?
On the print window or both in the print window and the printer preferences window?
The print window. How do I get to the printer preferences window?
When the Print window comes up, at the very top just to the right of the printer selection combo box is a button labeled “Properties.” This allows you to access specific configuration for whatever printer you have selected. It is provided by the printer manufacturer and will be different for different printers. Some printers allow you to print 2 copies by telling the printer to print 2 times whatever you send it, instead of by telling Word to send it to the printer 2 times.
It would be strange for this printer parameter to be set if you don’t know anything about it, unless someone else also uses your computer.
