True Blood 10/05

Not just me, then.

And we continue to get a whole lot of nekkid Anna Paquin. Ellis Dee must be ready to nominate this show for the Television Hall of Fame.

I wonder what Tara’s gonna be like without her demon?

Tara pissed me off, but I suppose it’s natural that she’ll need some time before accepting that her mom’s turnaround will last. I hope it does, but this show seems to be going for the dark, so it probably won’t.

I’m worried for the redhead.

I want to smack the way-too-bubbly After Sex Sookie.

I felt sorry for Tara. Sookie jumped all over her for no good reason; Sam said a stupid, hurtful thing to her; and she’s right to be suspicious of her mother’s exorcism.

Wait, that wasn’t Stephen Root? Wow, I’ll have to watch that again. And it was interesting to see such a mousy, submissive character as a vampire. I’d gotten so accustomed to the usual portrayal of vampires as sexually aggressive alpha-male types that I thought that’s all there was. But it would make sense that they would span all personality types.

I’m pretty sure that was Stephen Root.

I’m almost positive Arlene is the killer. I can’t even explain why I think so.

Is anyone else getting tired of the dream sequences?

It was definitely Stephen Root. It’s not listed on his imdb page yet, but guest starring roles on TV shows aren’t always immediately put up.

I thought it was a good episode. I liked the non-stereotypical vampire. I do wish they would resolve what’s going on with Sam’s background. It’s not really mysterious at this point, it’s more just waiting until they say he’s a shapeshifter or werewolf or something like that.

Looks like it was - I found him listed on HBO’s website, with no character name. I looked for him in the show credits last night, and didn’t see him. Cool.

Didn’t see his name in the credits, but I suppose I could have missed something. Don’t see Root in the imdb credits, either.

ETA – see that the fansites say it was, him though. Wadda ya know.

Maybe because the actress played Ben Linus’s mom on Lost? Not that she was evil, but he’s evil enough to overflow onto his near relatives.

Anyway, I totally agree about the graveside sex. I know it was supposed to be all hot and provocative, but all I could think was, “Damn, that’d be gritty.” And I don’t mean the kiss.

I don’t know what the books are like, but this show is staying true to what I like about HBO series - the characters are very real, and the interactions are multi-layered and compelling. I loved the scene with Sam and the veteran guy. You can see Sam weighing his need for secrecy against letting a vulnerable friend think he’s hallucinating.

Also, the Tara thing. Being a die hard skeptic, I of course sympathize with her derision of the exorcism. But then her relationship-destroying behavior made me think, “Well, they’re trying to make us think, ‘Jeez, maybe she does have a demon!’” And then I got frustrated with her for seeming to perhaps take the demon thing seriously. But then I remembered that in her world vampires turned out to be real, so who the fuck knows, maybe there are demons too!

I thought “Brotherhood” did a great job of capturing the flavor of Providence. Some of the accents were a little off, but some of them were very, very good. And the look and feel of the place was excellent.

Most of the dream sequences are in the book too.

As for what’s up w/Tara, I’m as lost as you guys since Tara’s character in the books is nothing like this Tara and only a minor character. In the books Tara isn’t really Sookie’s bff (they are friends) and Tara is basically a fang-banger.

I’ll go out on a limb and say since Jason’s new gal pal isn’t in the books… I think they’ll kill her off soon.

Eric is the worst cast character of all them (I’m sure I’ve said this before.) Makes it hard for me to watch him. He’s suppose to be built like a massive Viking w/huge hands. They did get the hair part right but that’s about all.

**Auntie Pam **did you see Pam in the bar scene last night? Notice how when not working at their bar she dresses like a suburban housewife? She’s ruthless and cold cold hearted but she loves the 'burbs and their way of life and how they dress. I think that’s why I like her some much in the “Serial Mom” type of way.

Huh. And checking IMDb, she’s married to Michael Emerson.

I missed her! I’ll look again when I watch a repeat. Does she have a bigger role in the books?

How many episodes are left? Do you suppose they’re waiting for the finale to reveal what’s up with Sam? I hate cliffhangers.

Actually, it was.

Yeah look for Pam the vampire in the final scene at the bar. I believe she’s wearing a white or cream sweater. As the books continue, she has a bigger role but it’s always a supporting role. I believe you may see more of her in the next episode based on what happened at the end of the last one.

I’m not saying anything about Sam.

From what I can tell, there will be 12 episodes (we’ve got 4 left) of True Blood this year ending on 11.23 which is the Sunday before Thanksgiving. I could be wrong about this, but several cites confirm only 12.

I couldn’t help but wonder how a vampire would be fat. I was completely yanked out of the scene for a moment because of that. Would you retain the body you had when you were turned? I never thought about that with all the “normal” (i.e. Hollywood normal) fit vampires, but a middle-aged obese couch-potato vampire seems so odd to me. Do the books mention anything about the vampire physique?

I thought Eric was too small at first, but his bio on IMDB says he’s 6’ 4", and has been voted the sexiest man in Sweden several times. You couldn’t tell much about him when he was sitting in that chair in the shadows of the bar all of the time, but I thought he looked the part in Bill’s tub. (And I thought Bill’s reason for not answering his text messages was funny.)

I don’t specifically remember any fat vampires in the book, but supposedly a vampire’s appearance remains exactly as it was at the time of their death. For instance, when Sookie comments on Bill’s long sideburns, Bill says: “It’s lucky for me I didn’t wear a beard as so many men did, or I’d have it for eternity.”

Which doesn’t make a lot of sense, really. What exactly would happen if he shaved it off? Would it instantly grow back?

There will be twelve episodes this season which means four more. It says this on the HBO web site.

I haven’t read the books but I’ve been enjoying this series. It’s take on vampire mythology is interesting.

I’m in love with the show. I love how they mock society’s lack of accepting minority groups. For instance, when the beginning credits are rolling, when that car passes the marquee sign that says “God hates fangs”, well, drop the “n” and you get… “fags” obviously. It’s just a great show that’s well written. Some of the actors got off to a shaky start with the acting, but as all great shows go, they eventually find their character and get more and more comfortable in their skin.

I know Sam is a shapeshifter or something, he’s got to be. That or they are just teasing us, for what reasons, I have no idea. But yeah, a great show, I’m a fan forever.
