True Blood 7/24/11 Me and the Devil

Yes, now that you say it, I do remember. It just seemed pretty weird that they would expect alligators to be at the spot where everyone seems to take their midnight swims.

I think its just conservation of set pieces - we’re not supposed to realize its the same spot -

Argh! Why did Pam blurt out where Eric was? She’s smarter than that, rotting or not.

Was I the only one who thought Arlene really meant religious folks? I don’t like her much, but she hasn’t been depicted as a racist (anti-supe, yes, but not racist), so… Pretty sure I now understand the point of the bad-baby plotline, though.

In the books she joins the Fellowship people after meeting a “nice guy” to replace severely injured and long gone Rene (in the books Rene isn’t killed, and Arlene and Terry are not a couple, nor is there a baby. Well, there will be, three of them, but none belong to Arlene or Sookie) and becomes instrumental in a minor character’s murder. I guess this is going to be the vehicle to get her there: when the Rev and Tara’s mom are proven to be ineffectual, she’ll turn to the Fellowship next.

And good on Tommy for taking out the trash. Sam’s right, it really was self-defense.

Yes, I think that’s absolutely what she meant. She even had that ‘Wha?’ look on her face when Lettie Mae said “What people?” I think it was Lettie Mae that just took it the wrong way, but she tends to be wound a little tight. (And even if she wasn’t wound a little tight, I could see mis-reading ‘you people’).

As for Pam blurting out the comment about Eric. Well, she’s been holding that in for a while, I suppose it just slipped out. It had to happen from a storyline POV, I mean, now they have Bill and his crew looking for Eric AND Tara knows about him and Sookie’s going to have everyone pissed at her next week and she’s going to have to spend a lot of time trying to explain to everyone that he’s not presenting a danger to anyone. While also trying to explain to Bill why she lied to him (cue sparking flames of romance again…“Sookie, I can never trust you again, it’s best we don’t see each other anymore”–“But Bill, I still love you, You know I only did this to protect [del]Eric[/del]you”)
Can someone remind me why Pam wouldn’t let her bring him to Bill to begin with? Did she (Pam) think Bill would kill him?

She thinks that given Bill tried to kill him the year before, he deliberately sent him after the witches to get him killed.

What was with all the talk about God? It goes along with what I said last week, about how the main characters are doing things they don’t normally do.

If I wanted to see a bunch of rural southern, not quite human people, talking about God, I’d go to a family reunion.

Tommy did what had to be done. I’m sorry but I hated his mother even more than the dad. The dad was a total, inhuman POS. The mom had the potential for good and chose evil. They both had it coming. That said Tommy bores me, he’s a pain in the ass.

I thought Alcide was looking particularly beautiful this week.

My prediction for next week: Eric and Sookie are gonna get it on and seeing that Bill is now headed over there, he’s gonna walk right in on them and lose his shit.

I can’t believe Portia still wanted to bang Bill but I like how he handled her.

I’m not sure the degree of terror he put into Portia was a good idea - doesn’t he still have a lot of legitimate business dealings with her? He could’ve just made her completely unattracted to him and been done with it.

I continue to be really bored with this season. As others above have posted, this has definitely moved from an “Oh yes, Sunday night and time to watch True Blood” excitement to a “Oh, that was on? I better check the DVR and watch it sometime this week”. Not sure how exactly they’ve managed to kill my enthusiasm for this show so quickly but they have.

Oh, and for the LOVE OF GOD will someone please kill Tara?!? Hooker be a one-trick pony going on 4 seasons now!

MeanJoe

I’m not sure if it makes any kind of difference at all. But Joe Lee isn’t Tommy’s dad, it’s his Mom’s husband (step dad).

There was some information about shape shifters being able to turn into other humans if they killed a family member…

I have enjoyed this season. Forget the “…with Lesbians” thread. I think just about any show/movie can be improved with a demon baby.

I forgot to ask: what are the odds that the jerk pack-leader who pestered Alcide isn’t the werewolf ex Luna mentioned? Slim, I’m betting.

I though this too!

No, he’s Tommy’s father too. If you have the DVDs for season 3, watch the first episode with Sam’s family in it again.

OIC.

Actually, I just went and did a bit of reading about him. Like I said, I was always (well, for a while anyways, I’m sure I knew the correct version when it was explained) under the impression that Joe Lee was, more or less, ‘some guy’ that’s been around since Tommy was little, but wasn’t biological.

It seems he was in jail when Sam was born so she gave Sam up for adoption, but I believe he raised (for lack of a better term) Tommy.
Is that correct?

ETA, I looking for specifically the TV version of things since I’ve never read the books, what happened in them doesn’t really matter to me.

Sam has a completely different family in the books, so your instincts are good.

But then again who doesn’t like marshmallows?

Funny NSFW Video on True Blood’s “Method Acting” with Marshall Allman.

Having Eric basically acting like a 4 year old kid because he’s mind wiped and using this to have him and Sookie persue a romantic relationship is kind of creepy.

Anyway - does anyone else feel like we’ve been cheated out of something good this season? The Russel Edgington thing at the end of last season promised to get this show back on track to what it was in the first season - an examination of how vampires could function in a human society with all of the tensions and problems that creates. It got sidetracked into Marry Ann and Nazi werewolves but with the end of last season it seemed like they were getting back to the interesting stuff.

How would society cope with what essentially became an overt declaration of war on behalf of some vampires? That’s a question that’s about a billion times more interesting than witches or fairies or any of that.

But what happened? They decide to pull the “one year later” bullshit where they basically just say “oh yeah, well, we smoothed that one over, and we’ve got to be on our best behavior from now on”… and we’re back to fairies and werewolves and witches. Really?

Am I the only one who feels like that was a trick and a total waste and it would’ve been 10x better if they’d have explored that?

I appear to be in the minority, but I’m totally happy with the show. (A pox on that guy who started the dumb “jumped the shark” bullshit. That saying is so stupid)

I think you’ll get your wish on seeing Russell again. The actor who plays him said he will be back.

My own WAG is that Debi Pelt will get tired of Alcide always being around Sookie and she’ll turn on him. Alcide has been telling her a little too much about Sookie/Eric and their business. I think he’ll eventually let it slip that Eric buried Russell on a property his company was building and that he helped Eric transport him there and she’ll find a way to dig him up for favor and V.

This is, of course, pulled straight out of my butt
