True Blood 8-7: The Cold Grey Light of Dawn

Ok…that was worth the buildup, I think. Great episode, and hope the season doesn’t end soon 'cause there is just so much going on! Can’t wait for next week.

Was really hoping Sam would snap Tommy’s neck.

Was really hoping Pam would snap Tara’s neck.

At least we got more naked Sookie.

And while I’m 99.9% sure they won’t kill off Jessica like this (she’s too popular a character), I still got pretty wound up at that last scene.

I think I have just stopped caring about this season. It seems I’m not the only one as I could not find a thread on last week’s episode and this week’s thread is late and not a lot of participation (so far).

Sam / Tommy - Tommy was interesting at first last year with the whole shapeshifter participating in dog fights to earn for his family. That small amount of interesting plot development was overwhelmed by everything else that was Tommy and his family.

Tara - I hate her. Seriously, cannot stand the character. Bug eyed and scowling in every scene is NOT acting! Now I have to deal with another story where this one note character is involved. I’m hoping to God this decision to help the witch results in the them finally killing her character off. I want Pam to kill, kill, kill her dead. Then fuck her.

Sookie - Let’s be honest, the girl is just so dumb that now into the 4th season she is painful to watch. Except when naked.

Eric - Way to go, take the best and most bad-ass vampire ever and turn him into a sensitive Twilight reject twit who is completely insecure that Sookie might leave him.

Were-Panthers - Don’t care. After 3 episodes of Sheriff Dumb-Ass being held hostage and forced to be breeding stock I really didn’t care. Apparently the writers agreed considering they’ve mostly dropped the story line except to say “Guess it doesn’t work that way!”. Of course that could also be a fake out but… I. Don’t. Care.

Were-Wolves - (There wolves!) Care slight more about them than Were-Panthers but really don’t care.

Lafayette - Awesome character made so much worse by the lame-o crying butt-hurt “wah, magic is real and my family didn’t love me” boyfriend. I guess now on True Blood everyone must have some fantastical-magically-delicious power and Lafayette gets to be a medium! Whose next? Is Terry a leprechaun and he forgot due to PTSD?

Jessica - She is so awesome and I really do like the development that is going on. She went from a rebellious teen-like vampire to a grown woman trying to make a “real” relationship work to now coming to terms with the opportunities in store for her in the future and not being tied down and unable to learn and indulge in who she really is as a vampire. So what do they do? Kill her off (possibly). Naturally that might just be a cliff hanger and Jason may come diving through the door and drive her back out of the sun and save her life with great sexy-sex to immediately follow. Actually, I’m 99% certain that is what is going to happen and even that ticks me off for being so manipulative with a really great character. And if it doesn’t and she really does die… I’ll be done with this show.

Really the only redeeming part of the this week’s episode was that Hoyt’s mom had a vampire for a neighbor.

So, first off, is there any reason they had to be tied down with silver instead of just somehow caged in silver? It seems to me that instead of burning all night they could have set it up so that if a spell was cast then they would be pulled against the silver. Of course I’m not sure if they silver itself is what kept them from being drawn into the sun or if it was because they were weak from hours of having themselves covered in silver.

Also, is there a reason not all the vampires in the parish were alerted to this? Or did some just not chose to heed the warnings/not get the message?

Next, does the vampire/human thing work both way? We know that after a vampire bites a human the vampire can sense when the human is in danger. Can the human sense when the vampire is in danger? Did Sookie sense when Bill was in trouble a few times early in the series that I’m forgetting?

One thing they did that always takes me out of a movie. When Bill and Luis reached for the wooden dagger you could see finger marks on the carpet right where Luis reaches (but misses). You can tell they rehearsed the scene. That always drives me nuts. Similarly I hate watching a car chase, seeing the cars coming towards the camera and thinking “Well, based on the skid marks all over the road, they’re obviously going to make a right turn at this corner”. As soon as the dagger his the ground, you could see that Luis would grab for it, but for whatever reason not be able to reach it.

I always look for the TB thread on Monday morning.

I think some vampires are still in the closet and that’s why they didn’t get the message. Mrs. Fortenberry was hilarious as usual.

Was the scene where Mrs. Fortenberry tries to take out Jessica ever shown? I remember the scene where Mrs. Fortenberry was shown buying a gun, and many episodes later Jessica mentions that Mrs. Fortenberry tried to shoot her, but I don’t remember actually seeing that scene.

I love Jason. I think he will save Jessica. Hoyt is going to have his heart broken.

I think Eric has started to regain his memory and is playing dumb. I think his time in the cell with Pam helped him to start snapping out of it. He’s going to keep playing the amnesia game until he is in the cat bird seat.

Tara should have stayed in Nawlins. At least her girlfriend had the good sense to get a crowd. Pam brings the lol’s every time. As does poor sweet loyal little Ginger.

I had a hard time believing Luis would be into women. At all. Ever, even if it was just once in 1610.

The Eric/Sookie sex scenes are not hot at all, which is astonishing to me personally because watching Eric take his shirt off is usually unbelievably hot.

Okay, I forgot about Ginger in this episode. She always makes me laugh and when she was straddling Pam’s coffin as it tossed about was good stuff!

Some observations and thoughts:

Jessica better not die. She’s a really interesting character, the relationship between her and Bill is genuinely touching, and she’s just so super-fine. Watching her get chained to a bed…mmmmmm yes.

I’m in full agreement, I hate Tara. My wife and I enjoy making snarky comments during the show, and “Tara, can’t you do anything right?” comes at least once an episode.

I do wonder how Bill came to the conclusion that the spell was coming that day.It would have been embarrasing for everyone if Martonia decided to delay things a week or two.

I probably should have noticed this previously, but I’m a straight dude, so I don’t notice this sort of thing, but Lord’s sakes, is Lafayette a beautiful man.

I was surprised that Jason didn’t suddenly were-out when he was running to Bill’s to save Jess.

Without commenting on whether or not Luis is gay, it wouldn’t matter anyways, he wasn’t raping her for himself, he was instructed to do so…their blood tastes sweeter when they scream…make her scream.

Jessica’s not gonna die; she appears in the synopsis of several future season 4 episodes. Bill shouldn’t have pussed out and stopped them from putting more silver on her.

I hate Tara AND Sookie.

Ok … so wtf was that in the kitchen with Lafayette singing to the baby? Who was she?

In a weird way, I kinda like Antonia. You’ve gotta be one pissed off bitch to wait 400 years for revenge; I dig that.

She showed up in the episode with the fire as well. Arlene’s baby was looking at her, but now we have the whole Lafayette is a medium thing going on, I’m guessing he’ll be able to communicate with her. I’m assuming she’s related to the doll.

I’m sorry, but she’ll always be Aunt Petunia to me. That’s why I’m really enjoying that story line; the irony of Aunt Petunia’s stance on witchcraft vs. Antonia… that’s just delicious.

And, AFAIC, Anna Paquin completely ruins any sex scene she’s ever in. Even with that smokin’ Skarsgaard fella… she just kills it for me. I have no idea why.

I just think that a page from How to make her scream during the Inquisition wouldn’t have rape as a number one activity. I don’t remember her screaming.

She didn’t scream, but he was raping her in an attempt to get her to scream.

  • Jessica will be fine. No worries.
  • Bill is much better looking this season, better haircut and clothes.
  • Tommy is kicked out yet again??? And this time Sam MEANS it? Oh, please. (Did Sam tell Luna that it was Tommy disguised as him that she got with the other night?) Tommy isn’t going anywhere, I don’t know why they keep him hanging around, though. Which leads to
  • Tara. Why do they keep HER hanging around? Why didn’t she blow town with the girlfriend, again? That would have been the logical thing to do, but no, she and Tommy are going to stay and be annoying.
  • Sookie and Eric, naked or not, are underwhelming. And…that’s all I got.

Because wherever she goes, Pam will find and kill her (and girlfriend). So either they both die or Tara sends GF back home while she stays around in an attempt to deal with Pam on her own (or get killed and keep GF out of it).

Also, I cannot wait to see Jessica “eat that fucking witch.” Great line.

The most disappointing thing about True Blood is that Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica) does no nude scenes. This would improve ratings.

This was a marginally better episode, but still pretty much a yawn.

Hoyt’s mom’s neighbor thing was kinda funny, and Jessica wanting to eat that witch was great, but a lot of dead territory (pardon the pun).

He asked her what happened after she transformed into another person. When she told him about the fever and vomiting blood, she saw the look on his face and connected the dots on her own.

I agree that Bill looks better. More modern. I’m looking forward to Arlene finding out her baby has a ghost as a stalker. Better than being evil I suppose.

Hmm. Thanks for the answers about Tara and Tommy.

Mrs. Hoyt’s neighbor that walked out and burst into flames was ‘Beulah’. She didn’t get the memo?

Was going to say Tara and her friend would have had quite a head start on Pam, who would have to fix her little disintegration problem and stay to take care of the bar until Eric became himself again. But time doesn’t mean anything to vampires, she could hunt them down in New Orleans 10 years from now.
