I quite liked this episode!
Eric/Sookie/Bill: I really like that they are all standing up for each other. Bill is doing right by Sookie by not killing Eric and giving Sookie a chance at happiness. Sookie and Eric are showing loyalty to Bill and standing by him. Bill is keeping Tara safe as best he can. And Sookie and Eric are having vampire blood hallucination sex in Nordic beds. I’ve heard there is some infamous shower sex scene in the book for Sookie and Eric. I guess this is the show’s version. Did it resemble it in any way? OTOH Eric seemed a little bit bloodthirsty when he grabbed that heart. That was a little disappointing.
Wolfpack: Alpha has backed off and even seems fairly reasonable. But then he turns out to be the psycho ex of Sam’s girl. This was telegraphed in huge capital letters but somehow I didn’t see it coming. I’m glad she forgave Sam though.
Sam’s brother: obvious course of events but still fun to see.
Jessica: Holy CRAP! SHE DID NOT JUST KILL HOYT. Oh, OK, she didn’t actually. I also feel sheepish for not realizing this was a dream sequence until Jason started making with the sexy. OTOH, the theoretical lameness of this being a dream sequence was completely and totally vindicated by the juxtaposition of it as Jessica’s expectation of how the break up with Hoyt would play out versus how it ended up actually playing out. Really brilliant. Reminded me a little bit of the “expectation vs reality” scene from 500 Days of Summer.
Lafayette/creepy doll: Not as excited by this plotline yet, although it has the potential for goodness when it crosses the path of Antonia.
War!: I loved Bill saving Tara and Pam’s reaction to that. Sookie is shot, but Bill and Eric are predisposed! Can’t she heal herself with fairy magic? I guess not. But Alcide is there! And his girl is spying. Hmmmm… Meanwhile, what exactly did Antonia do to Eric? I liked that Sookie caught Antonia casting a secret spell. It’s nice that they use her mind reading sparingly such that whenever she does it’s like “oh yeah! I forgot about that…”
This thread came fast. I kinda wanted to post. Next time, I’ll be faster. lol
I would say this is possibly the best episode of this not so stellar season.
Not a Sookah fan. I loved seeing little Miss. I’m So Tough (not really) get shot and die (according to the previews, but she’ll be revived. Damn it).
The sex scene is the snow was so BEAIUTIFUL, but still not feeling Anna/Alex. No chemistry.
I thought Jessica really killed Hoyt, too. I’m not liking this Jason/Hoyt/Jessica storyline anymore.
I still feel bad for Debbie. Seriously, does everyone want Sookah? Meh.
I KNEW Tommy was going to steal Maxine’s money!
I forgot to say this last week, but I don’t like Luna at all. Hope she meets the same fate all of Sam’s girlfriends do.
When did Pam get recombobulated?
Another vote for thinking Jessica killed Hoyt, until she got in the car and Jason thought it was hot. As much as he likes her right now, that’s not something he would have been okay with.
I liked Jason’s little deal with Bill along the lines of “Well, then we’ll just pretend like I didn’t shoot that guard outside mmkay”
Tommy as Mrs Foytenberry was funny, I liked that. Took me a second to put it together though.
Why did Beulah catch fire right away? Is she younger/weaker or was that just for dramatic effect?
Lastly, I really liked this episode, I thought they were finally started to trim some of the fat from the show until they took a two pronged approach to foreshadow an upcoming warewolf/vampire war. They had Debbie making Alcide promise he’d keep his distance from Sookie which we knew wouldn’t last (though I expected would have lasted more then 5 minutes) and we had Pack Leader telling the wolves to just stay away from vampires. Obviously they wouldn’t make a statement like that in the show if they weren’t setting something up so we have to assume they aren’t planning to either go their own way or work together with the vampires. And with that I think we can assume a war will be happening.
So, will it be due to a misunderstanding? Will it be due to Sookie/Alcide and Debbie getting jealous? Will the wolves join up with the Wiccans?
I’m hoping it isn’t a Sookie/Alcide and Debbie thing as that would be far to similar to how the show started (Sookie/Bill).
Actually make that a 2.5 pronged approach. The pack leader and Luna’s relationship is sort of half assed connection back to the vampires as well (Luna>Sam>Sookie…it’s a stretch, but to us, the viewers, it’s a good connection)
Last episode. She just looks ok. She’s still rotting on the inside. That’s what the peel and needles were for. To look ok.
That and it makes life a lot easier for the people in the makeup department…can we get a ruling from the books? (I’m guessing the whole rotting flesh thing wasn’t in the books though)
I’m kind of surprised they had her as rotted as she did for as long as they did. Kudos to them.
Fuck you, Bill! Why couldn’t you just let Pam kill Tara? Why?!
As much as Tara is hated, plotwise she’s an aspect of Sookie. Bill could not screw her over again and remain respectable in our eyes, and definitely not good in Sookie eyes.
Also Tara is more likable this season. Why punish writing improvement? And even if she weren’t why question the plot development that puts them on opposite sides of a war?
That happened last episode. I don’t
think it happened right away. The key is, Bill doesn’t have an all knowing vampire registrar. She was in the vampire closet. So Bill couldn’t warn her. Unlike Jessica who just opened the brief doorway to sunlight before Jason tackle-saved her, she took at least ten large strides into sunlight oblivion before she was destroyed.
They mentioned in earlier seasons that older vampires are actually more sunlight flammable. Godric goes up right away, while Bill and even Eric are able to hang out in the sunlight for decent amounts of time.
@Jack, yes, it happened last week, I just forgot to ask about it until now and I didn’t want to bump the old thread.
Simplico. Are you suggestion that Beulah is older then Eric? I was under the impression that Eric was one of the oldest (if not, the oldest) vampires currently around. If Beulah was as old as Godric (she went up much faster and more dramatically) then him, you’d think other vampires would know of her by now. Also, I think she’s the first vampire we’ve seen actually catch fire, isn’t she?
Just saying what the rules are they established earlier in the series. The priest-vampires earlier in the season also burst into flame, so maybe rapid combustion is a feature of the witch spell. I don’t really remember if other vampires burst into flame, at least some of them seem to kinda smolder for at least a little while.
Or as is more likely, the flames were dramatic and tied the witches revenge thematically to her death, and the writers liked the effect enough to ignore what they’d established earlier in the series.
That and Sookie’s faerie blood helps them as well. Remember, both Eric and Bill have had her blood. That’s why all the vamps are into Sookie, right? Fae blood is like catnip to vamps.
TV Pam has little to do with Book Pam. They’re like two totally different characters. All I can say, that bed-in-the-snow scene was just entrancing. Reminds me of some expensive furniture ad years ago where they put items in the forests and fields. Tommy as Hoyt’s momma was hilarious!!!
I totally lost it when Jason told Jessica to think about happy things, like BBQ, while he was silvering her.
Andy wanting to lick Beulah’s goo up and Jason being the voice of reason was also very funny.
I feel so bad for Hoyt. He is such a sweet and genuinely good man.
I knew the Hoyt/Jessica/Jason dream sequence was a dream right away, but it was hilarious.
Correct, but not Eric. We saw Bill out and about in sunlight back in season one when he went to rescue Sookie in the cemetery. Bill is relatively young so he just kinda smoldered a bit.
We saw Godric burst into flames almost immediately. Eric has only ever been in sunlight right after feeding on a fairy or Sookie, so we haven’t seen him in sunlight unaided yet. I’m guessing he’d go up pretty darn quick.
Note that fairy blood only gives protection from sunlight for a very short time, so when we saw Bill try to rescue Sookie in the cemetery back in season one he had no fairy blood protection going.
Jessica fans might want to check out Fringe this season based on this. I am intrigued.
Is it just me or does it seem that Sookie/Anna Paquin is getting a significant decrease in screentime this season? Seasons 1-3 she was the main character but her role thus far could charitably be called supporting. I’m not even sure who the main character is at this point. Possibly Bill.
