True Blood season finale 11/23 (open spoilers)

To be fair it does sound like he’s talking about Layfayette especially if you don’t speed Swedish.

Agreed. I wonder if they used that expression deliberately to add to the ambiguity.

and why did I say “speed Sweedish”? SPEAK DAMNIT. SPEAK.

The translation isn’t ambiguous. Erik just pawned a bloodthirsty brat off on someone else. They probably laughed about it all the way back to Shreveport.

I think he means that the words in Swedish sound vaguely like “You can feed on Lafayette,” in English, not that the translation is ambiguous.

Alexander Skarsgård, the actor playing Eric, is Swedish. I’m guessing the line was ad-libbed by him. I doubt the writers and directors know any Swedish at all probably wouldn’t have the knowledge to do something like that intentionally.

Yes I know that, it was just funny to see this vamp zoom up to the door all supernatural-like and then ring the doorbell.

Exactly. It’s probably just a coincidence, but it’s funny that they used an expression in Swedish that it was possible to mishear as something relevant to the plot in English.

So… I only got to see the first episode but I liked it. I’ve read the book so I don’t fear spoilers, though. What do those of you who’ve read the book too think of the first season? Did they do a reasonable job adapting the book? I’d like to know if I ought to buy the DVDs when they come out.

I think the writing on this show is genius. Really good. One thing that bothers me is, what did Rene do if someone were to speak french to him? I mean, afterall, he was faking a Cajun/French accent, ya know? lol

But I hope Lafayette isn’t dead either. I saw the painted toenails and was wondering if he ever painted them in the show. Did he?

Also, who took the Detective Andy’s car and then put it back in the wrong spot with a body in it? That was weird too.

I also think that the lady Tara is living with is either a werewolf or alien. What was up with that vibrating thing she was doing while meditating? I just hope this show doesn’t go too overboard with mythology.

Yeah, while he was watching the senator on TV at the bar.

So who’s Maryann and what’s with the pig?

Most Cajuns Rene’s age, even those with strong accents, can’t speak more than a few words of French anymore (Cajun French, anyway). It’s definitely dying out with later generations. French immersion schools were all the rage in south Louisiana when I was there, but they were pricey and taught “real” French, rather than Cajun French. Seems like a damned shame.

I’ve been watching reruns of Deadwood on the HBO Zone channel. God, what a difference in writing, acting, everything. It’s like a cool drink of water after the desert that is, unfortunately, True Blood.

[hijack]What is the HBO Zone channel? I have HBO on Demand, but I don’t think Deadwood is showing on it. I’m currently reading Conn Iggulden’s Empire series, and I’m dying to re-watch some Rome![/hijack]

HBO Zone is one of those channels you get when you order the HBO “package.” BTW, I’m pretty sure Rome is on HBO on Demand, at least here.
