True Blood 6/20/2010 - Beautifully Broken -- OPEN SPOILERS

Didn’t see a thread.

It helps my enjoyment of the show to watch it as a soap, as suggested in last week’s thread. But does anyone else think there are too many story lines? Everybody’s got something going on.

I missed a few minutes and didn’t know until I read the TWOP recap that Franklin removed the body of Jessica’s victim. Was he just being helpful or did he need to air out the place before going through Bill’s stuff?

I liked Sookie doing an imitation of Bill, and Andy’s comment about Jason being prettier than all the girls in Bon Temps. Also liked Terry and his list.

Didn’t like that Bill didn’t think (or bother) to call Sookie and let her know he was okay. If he asked permission from the King to call her, I missed it. The reason I didn’t like it was because it’s one of those contrivances for the sake of plot – Sookie will dither around getting in trouble looking for him. It’s also a reason for Sookie to be pissed at him when he finally does show up.

I don’t understand why the King thinks Bill can influence the Queen to marry him. What’s up with that?

Oh, and Sam with his new family – did his brother lure him into the road?

I have a feeling that, he not only lured him to the road, but into werewolf territory. Just a guess on my part though.

I got the impression he basically has mistaken Bill for Eric, meaning the vampire in the Queen’s confidence and privy to her secrets. That’s why Bill made the joke that he had gotten his intel from werewolves.

It seems pretty clear to me that they weren’t going to let Bill call anyone. It’s not a plot contrivance – these guys are proposing essential treason, and they don’t want Bill squealing to anyone until he’s either firmly on board or dead.

Yep, too many plot lines. Then they have to throw in some werewolves, then suggest there are more than one kind of werewolf. Then the new vampire befriending Tara. Not my favorite show but I’ve followed it from the beginning and have seen all the episodes at least once and I am having a hard time following all the characters.

Best part…

Jason: “There’s werewolves?”
Sookie: “Yes.”
Jason: “S–t. Bigfoot, is he real, too?”
Sookie: “I don’t know, I guess it’s possible.”
Jason: “Santa?”
Sookie: “Jason, focus!”

Also Sookie’s impersonation of Bill was hilarious!

Sookie: “Every sound I hear, every time the phone rings or I see a shadow in the corner of my eye, I think it’s Bill. I keep expecting him to come through the door and say [in Bill’s accent] Sookie.”

My favorite part of the entire episode was Snoop Doggy Dogg’s tribute to [Bill voice] Sookie. [/Bill voice] Hilarious!

I am so downloading that for my pod.

That was funny, but kinda highlights the silliness of this world. When I first heard the premise of the series (and the first few episodes seemed to go along with this) I thought this was going to be a somewhat realistic vampire story. The idea that a few smart and powerful vampires could remain hidden amongst the world, and now they didn’t have to, and to see how they’d integrate into the world seemed interesting enough. But now we have a world where pretty much every mythical creature exists. Which makes it very implausible that humans were unaware of the existance of supernatural creatures until vampires came out recently - I mean, werewolves and vampires and shapeshifters and a maenad and who knows what else all running around undetected?

I mean, there’s a part of the episode where one character seriously talks to another about Nazi werewolves. Kinda… over the top there.
I guess watching it like a soap opera makes sense, but… bleh to that.

I liked the dinner party at the house of the (very gay) king of Mississippi, with the chilled carbonated blood with citrus notes (but cruelty-free, mind you) and the gelato that was apparently blood-flavored. I didn’t quite understand the guest bedroom that was very expensively and elaborately decorated but also served as a place in which to imprison vampires.

The doors (and presumably only way out) were heavy and pure silver - and gaurded from the outside.

Yeah, sorta like Kim Newman’s books. Maybe we’ll see something like that, someday. We can hope.

Did anyone catch The Gates on ABC? A vampire family moves to suburbia.

If True Blood wasn’t on premium cable, I probably wouldn’t watch. The attraction for me is no commercials, Eric, the humor, the minor characters (especially Terry), and that I can watch pretty much whenever I feel like it.

It looks like after the Maryann mess of last season that they might be swinging back toward the books a little bit with the King of Mississippi/Werewolves/Jason seeing that girl out in Hotshot.

I always forget what a good actress Alfre Woodard is until I see her again.

Also, I feel I must say it in every True Blood thread: Eric ::swoon::

That’s why I described the room as one intended for imprisoning vampires. But why would you put all of that antique furniture in a room meant as a jail cell? If the vampire who was stuck there got pissed at the idea, wouldn’t he destroy the furniture?

Maybe I missed something, but I don’t see how they know that was Franklin who went through Bill’s files and removed the body. And what does it mean that Bill had such extensive files on Sookie? Is he genuinely in love with her or does he have an ulterior motive to be interested in her?

I was wondering what was going on in that scene, but the preview of next week’s episode clarified it.

What? no one comments on the awe-inspiring Lafayette?? I need a cousin like that! LOL He knows how to get through to Tara.

Sookie’s impression of Bill? Loved it. I thought this was a really good episode and got things moving in the right direction after the MaryAnne debacle of last season.

Hey! I missed the part in The Tudors where Thomas Cromwell turned into a vampire.

I’m not sure about removing the body, but they focused on the boots of the person who went through the files and then made a point to show the boots of Franklin when we saw him.

I can’t say for sure about the show but in the books…

In the books Bill admits that he was sent by the Queen to get to know Sookie because of her mind reading abilities. This infuriates her and causes her to turn away from him

I got that part from the boots closeup, but I had no idea his name was Franklin. To me he’ll always be that guy on 24 that used to be married to Auuudrey.
Also

Re moving the body – I got it from the TWOP recap. I don’t know how accurate the recaps are though. I assume they see what we see, and I didn’t see the body being moved (but I missed parts of the ep).
