Next week in logic class, Alietta, you’ll learn that you can’t prove a negative statement.
Alietta -In a recent thread I was introduced to this site:
http://www.objectivethought.com/atheism/rock.html
Oh and also, it does disprove anything. I don’t think the concept of “God” is logical to begin with (I could be wrong).
Forty-Two!
Knew it would finally come in handy isomewhere*.
Perhaps God could change my last post. Can god create a vB code so powerful it could change a typo?
I think DtheC and Polycarp dealt with the OP in another thread. I shall now search for it. Feel free to post the thread link if you find it first. It was pretty good.
Are you saying this topic has been addressed 42 times!
If so…
…
Daaaaammmmmnnnnnn…
Heck, that’s no miracle. Dr Who’s Tardis does it all the time.
assume:
p
q
p->~q
:.
~p
proof of a negative statement.
anyway, i think it is just silly to claim that god is not bound by logic. not because he is, but because that claim itself is meaningless. if you do not consider his existence logical, how can you say truthfully and validly that it isn’t?
What does logic have to do with God’s existance? I heard it said that if there were no God, man would invent one.
Well, the OP is certainly more controversial than Oolon Coluphid’s trilogy of philosophical blockbusters: Where God Went Wrong, Some of God’s Greatest Mistakes and Who is This God Person Anyway? Of course, the danger in proving that black is white is that you might get killed at the next zebra crossing.
I’m finding Mr Coluphid’s “Well, That Just About Wraps it Up For God” a very interesting read.
My daughter has already had that question here so she asked the
preacher to help her with the answer and here is what he gave:
Dear Jolted (Ha! Ha!),
If God can do anything that he wants to do, and that rock is the BIGGEST that he can possibly create, then the “anything” would include moving the BIGGEST rock because there’s only two things that God cannot do…fail or lie. If God could not move this BIGGEST rock, then he would have failed. The word “can’t” is not in his vocabulary except in the realm of evil. God can’t do wrong. Furthermore, if God can move this universe, (which He does continuously) then the rock which he theoretically cannot move would have to be bigger than this universe. So, if this rock is bigger than this universe God has simply discarded it and thrown it away because we have no proof of its existence! He doesn’t have to lift…He just speaks and His will is done, even if it means to move a rock BIGGER than this universe.
Course my reply was that he could make a hammer and burst it to bits…
Oh, and Alietta, you seem to start with the premise that God cannot do the illogical. That is, you start with the premise that God is not all-powerful.
It’s the Circular Reasoning Show! With your host…
dum-dum-dum-DAAAAAAAA
Or:

logical arguments tend to assume that logic is valid.
just like your “proof” of Alietta’s circularity.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:
All people are just really, really bad Taoists. Except those that aren’t.
Dear God;
This is to inform you that your current position as deity is herewith terminated due to gross incompetence STOP Your check will be mailed STOP Please do not use me for a reference
Respectfully,

Why does God have to be all-powerful? Maybe he’s just very powerful with a really good PR division.
Prove this statement: “You can’t prove a negative statement”.
Well, if God is as most major religions define him, infallible and all-knowing there is no rock possible to create that is too large for God to move in some way.
Besides, this God could evolve himself enough to move the rock.
Spend a few months in the gym, etc.
Well, if nothing else, He could always move the whole universe except for the rock. That would effectively move it from one place to another.
