I don’t plan to watch it (as I’ve had some G.I. issues recently) but maybe some of y’all with strong constitutions will make the sacrifice for the good of the order, and will favor us with a blow-by-blow commentary on the event.
We don’t want the news media’s fake news; we want real news from real Dopers. We’ll read the fake news later. Thank you.
For whatever entertainment value can be derived, keep your eyes on Paul Ryan. Should be amusing to watch for suppressed eye-rolls and any other reactions.
Neither Ryan nor any other of the defeated rivals now writhing can blame old Donald for their thankful losses to him ( although the old entertainer performed magnificently ) — as with Hillary, not only was it a death foreseen, but something entirely due to their own hubristic inadequacies, and not to Trump’s personal brilliance.
I doubt it. Clinton and Obama could wax poetic for hours. Trump hasn’t the attention span nor the stamina. I expect that his speech won’t be much longer than his inauguration.
“But wait,” you say. “What about his convention speech that painted the US as a hell-scape of epic proportions for nearly two hours?” I don’t see that as a possibility tonight. He can’t go on for hours about how bad things are. He’s in charge now! He’s going to claim that everything is sunshine and rainbows. He alone has fixed everything wrong with the country. That which is still wrong will be fixed by the end of the year. That message doesn’t have to go on for hours to be effective.
