Eh, this is one of those issues where I am not necessarily opposed, even if, as another poster noted, the idea is being floated for, um, unsavory reasons. Although I’m as leftwing as they come on the bulk of all other issues, I am still relatively conservative on immigration policy. And yes, it is - ironic? I guess - that the opposition to this idea is mostly stemming from Democratic officials.
To the extent that I see an issue with this sanctuary city release proposal, it’s that there doesn’t seem to be much consideration to the logistics behind doing this on a massive scale. I mean, is the administration just planning on dumping bus loads of illegal immigrants onto San Francisco street corners?
The opposition to this disgusting idea has nothing to do with not wanting these desperate people in Sanctuary cities.
If Trump has everyone so numb that the inhumane idea of using these people this way is not understood, then this country is well and truly fucked.
The message that is missed here? It was that even ICE told Trump to go pound sand.
What bobot said, really 2ManyTacos, I do seriously think that you need to look for better sources or unfriend some [del]fiends[/del] friends in social media.
Related to this, Trump is making this worse by cutting aid to Central America (although that order seems to be a Salazar style one too) and doing nothing about climate change.
And does it matter that lots of Trump supporters were really big on the idea of a wall to keep the scary brown people out of the US? If I were a redhat I’d be really pissed upon learning that Trump is perfectly willing to let those leprous smallpox-infested murderers and rapists into my nice white country.
Yeah, but I am too pessimistic at this point to believe it is on strictly ethical grounds.
ICE and DHS will depend on Democrat support for future budgetary committees. No one in charge wants their purse cut or their head to roll 2 years down the road.
I know, but the sequence of events still seems like this:
President Trump: “we’ll keep them in Mexico”
California judge: “you can’t do that, you have to let them in”
President Trump: “fine, we’ll send them to California”
More California judges: “shit … umm … never mind, you can keep them in Mexico.”
President Trump: “I’m going to make a massive wall that is a total environment disaster, and won’t accomplish a thing. It will be a huge waste of money but I can put my name on it”
California judge: “That’s a really, really stupid idea”
President Trump: "fine, I’m going to punish you because I have the mental capabilities of a 5 year old, and it’s time to throw a tantrum.
More California judges: “There are much better options that you can’t see because you are nothing more than a spoiled brat”
So let me get this straight: Trump characterizes all these border-crossers as violent criminals and then proposes busing them to hundreds of sanctuary cities and counties in 27 states and expecting them to stay put? That’s a real knee-slapper.
He is cutting aid to Central America because the GOp found out how effective the scare tactic of a “invasion” of “tens of thousands” was in the last election.
He hopes there will be more and larger caravans, which may help him sit in the White House for another four years.
