It was in Arizona I believe
Utah Valley University, Orem, UT
Need to remember, however, that it happened at Utah Valley University. Not Berkley or Oberlin.
ETA: ninja’d by a couple of other posters
Yup you’re correct, sorry for the misinformation
The Times is reporting that the person taken into custody is not the shooter.
This sure is going to put a damper on 9/11…
Utah Valley is a state university, not a religious school, and professors at state universities in red states are just like professors everywhere else. (Cite: I am one.) One of the reasons why universities were Kirk’s favorite targets is that they’re generally the only institutions upholding a distinctly liberal ethos and set of values in those parts of the country (and, heaven forbid, exposing impressionable young people to those values!)
John Donne was wrong. Not every death diminishes me.
Avoiding any moving pictures on Twitter whatsoever at the moment … but the consensus from several sources is that Kirk has died.
The White House probably is appreciating this as a distraction from Epstein, too. It’s a very timely “look over there!” thing for them.
Your comment led me there, and I saw the close up video.
He’s hit just to the side of his Adam’s Apple. His head immediately drops back, limp, while blood pours out of the wound.
Yeah, very graphic.
And almost certainly lethal.
Speaking of Trump, this aged like milk:

The Trump administration has set its sights on restructuring the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, including plans to loosen gun regulations and significantly reduce its budget.
Pours out? Explodes out. I still see it when I close my eyes.
I have not watched the video, but the comments of everyone on Reddit are to the effect that the blood loss was unsurvivable.
Now that he’s dead, I hope that people don’t forget how terrible he was. Sometimes it’s okay to say bad things about dead people.
Too bad thet couldn’t mop it (blood) up and put it to good use. >>>>handbasket accelerating>>>>
This wasn’t a carotid shot, or blood would’ve spurted all over the tent. The heavy blood draining and instant loss of consciousness points to jugular vein.
I disagree that this was 100% unsurvivable. An injury to a single jugular vein is survivable with prompt treatment. Not highly survivable, but survivable. I wouldn’t put money on a full recovery of brain function though.
People always overestimate blood loss because blood looks so bloody when it’s on the wrong side of the skin. It’s too soon to say.
We don’t have confirmation of whether he survived or not, but I’m not sure he survived the four second video, much less until now.
For comparison, MLK Jr. was struck in the jaw, the bullet tore downward through his neck and out his shoulder. He was pronounced dead one hour and four minutes later.
Oh, he’s dead. We’re just awaiting the formal confirmation.
