Trump ally and conservative pundit Charlie Kirk shot at Utah event [now reported deceased, same date 10SEP2025]

Yeah, there was a vigil here, too. A local television station estimated between 300-600 in attendance. That’s not very many. Our local No Kings protest garnered over 10,000. Still, I hated to see it at all.

To the tune of…?

Washington isn’t particularly rural. It isn’t NYC/Chicago or anything, but it is part of the greater St. George area with 180k or so population. Fast growing urban/suburban sprawl.

Kablooey CK?

too soon?

Just ran across this article in The Guardian. It contains a list of extreme quotes from CK with the videos for each one.

I’ve seen most of these on my social media feeds, but without the proof that he said them. Until now.

How great is the LDS in St. George today?

I think that anyone taking the life of another … well if not mentally ill … is not totally right in the head.

I don’t celebrate this guy’s death, but I don’t totally regret it either. As my son said I refuse to celebrate his life. After all, he wasted his own life, a precious thing, with hate and division. I hate to see a human body violated that way, but he traded in violence, and I guess he lost.

People are idiots. Just googling for some quotes of his reveals that he thought the Civil Rights Act was a mistake, that if his 10 year old daughter were to be raped then she should deliver the child. On learning of Taylor Swift’s engagement he advised her “Reject feminism. Submit to your husband, Taylor. You’re not in charge.” Why do so many people think he was Mr. Wonderful? He was not a great man. He was not even a good man. He espoused an evil worldview and poisoned the minds of millions.

Absolutely.

He was a despicable human and it just floors me that so many people have been drawn into a false mirage.

Only ever visit, so don’t have a good feel, Wikipedia says 63%. It is very much the “Mormon Snowbird” community where people retire to warm weather. Enough active population to have two LDS temples. So not as low as Salt Lake City (around 50%) but not quite the 90% of Provo/Orem.

Being charitable — or at least more charitable than seems the norm among these people — I suspect to some it’s because they regard CK as a member of their “tribe,” and thus someone to be respected and believed.

But I can come up with several less charitable reasons, which I’ll keep to myself (you never know who’s listening).

Because of those opinions, not despite them.

Assholes, one and all.

Because so many people agree with those things you just said and think he is speaking the plain truth.

Maya Angelou wrote something to the effect that people won’t remember what you said, but they’ll remember how you made them feel. If you don’t actually listen too closely to Kirk, he seems fairly polite. When he “debated” college students, he wasn’t rude, he didn’t put them down, and he was able to remain civil. To a lot of people, that’s all it takes to be a good guy. So long as your venomous words spill out of your mouth with honeyed words you’re golden.

Now combine that with the many people who don’t think politics should be taken personally. Those who view it the same way you or I might a sports team. A lot of them don’t have any stake in this fight because the opposition isn’t going to screw them over by taking away their rights.

I saw something on bluesky. Someone recalled a conversation with their friend where basically the algorithms only showed the friend the “Christian influencer” angle and she was stunned when the author showed her the racist / misogynist stuff.

In the “you couldn’t script this shit if you tried” department, guess who else’s birthday is October 14. I can’t wait to mention this to all the Reich wing fucks commemorating Charlie Kirk next month.

Because he promoted a world view where White people were on top, and especially men were on top, by decree and not by having to earn such a thing, and his fans believed that they would be in the privileged inner circle if only Kirk’s world view was allowed to be in charge. Kirk was selling a fairy-tale and his followers believed that they would be the Hero if they were transported to the fairy-tale world.

As MeidasTouch noted, almost all what we are getting about the non shooter Transsexual “lover” of the killer is what the Utah Governor said… the Governor claimed he got it from the FBI.

We should remember how incompetent is this crowd who was selected or influenced by Trump, the disturbing thing is that it is very likely that Kash Patel got it from one of the most unreliable fox news reporters and the Governor was told that it was an FBI “official” report:

One should notice too: A competent FBI director would had declared that the ones leaking that before an investigation was finished (and many other sources noted that the FBI was investigating still if that rumor was true) should be reprimanded, as it is, this is grounds for a lawsuit or loss of confidence in the FBI.

It sort of belongs in the Leopards thread, but apparently there’s a growing CT that Israel had him killed because he was “bringing attention to what a bad deal the Israel-US relationship is for the US”
