I anticipate Trump and his cult followers will not be satisfied with anything less than Robinson dying in a hail of bullets.
Plus there’s the extra tariffs to consider now…
Of course, but you can’t slap a big tariff on something that isn’t there.
If this LDS view of redemption was really the driving force behind Utah’s sentencing, they wouldn’t have the death penalty. The MAGAs want blood. The only thing that might prevent them from getting it is if Erika Kirk’s (performative?) forgiveness extends to making a clear plea for him to be to be spared rather than just far enough to mouth the words “I forgive you” as she watches him put to death.
This is a real headscratcher to me. Why do you believe the LDS view of redemption should preclude capital punishment? Utah’s origins, and in particular its government’s relationship to the Mormon church, are well known. It is perhaps as close as you are going to get in the US to an actual theocracy—and that’s saying quite a lot. And yet, Utah has had capital punishment since before it was a state. I daresay that the idea of blood atonement might just have made it into state law before the Mormon church purported to reject any such doctrine as part of its revisionist/sane-washing phase.
@Crane seemed to be arguing that the LDS attitude towards redemption would mean that Robinson would probably get out in 18 months. I was arguing against that, with a view more in line with yours. I probably should have put scare quotes around “LDS view of redemption”.
The religious right - regardless of the religion in question - puts their own desires and prejudices first, and ignores or rationalizes away any violations of their supposed religious principles. Fundamentally it doesn’t matter what the official theology of the LDS says; LDS Trumpers will just indulge their bloodlust and handwave away any aspects of their religion that says that’s a bad thing.
Ah, I see. Personally, I thought Crane’s suggestion was too ridiculous to take seriously.
If he could, that Fat Orange Bastard would slap a tariff on Democracy.
Oh, wait…
Everyone understood this very simple point that someone who is violently eliminated for speech will not be able to make that speech into the future and this is an effective way to score a political victory. You do not need to keep repeating it over and over like some big revelation.
You like to believe in your head you are this smooth political operator. Turns out you are just very very stupid and your mental model of the world only has two buckets, evil and non-evil and people in the evil bucket deserve to be destroyed for speaking out.
The height of libtard hypocrisy. Be too cowardly to state a position because it is repulsive but state it anyway by falsely ascribing it to your murdered opponent. Very interesting indeed. I think I will do a collage of all of these now.
I have faith in LDS folks to put LDS first and Trump far down the list. Kathy Nester will provide a strong defense.
Nonsense. The reality is that the overwhelming majority of political violence in this country is carried out be right wingers. Kirk was part of what fed that violence.
There’s at least one unpopulated island that shows this assertion is incorrect.
Yes, nonsense from Pedro Picapiedra. The Antidefamation League explains about the bad things Turning Point was/is doing. You bet Charlie spoke pretty about declaring those things as being fake or “nice in context”.

Key Points
Turning Point USA TPUSA is a right-wing student organization.
Founded in 2012 by Charlie Kirk, TPUSA has raised millions from conservative donors and has played a significant role in GOP politics and elections.
Since the group’s founding, Kirk has moved further to the right and has promoted numerous conspiracy theories about election fraud and Covid-19 and has demonized the transgender community.
Kirk also promotes Christian nationalism: the idea that Christians should dominate the government and other areas of life in the US.
TPUSA continues to attract racists to the group. Numerous TPUSA representatives have made bigoted remarks about minority groups and the LGBTQ+ community.
White nationalists have attended TPUSA events, even though the group says it rejects white supremacist ideology.
Kirk has created a vast platform for extremists and far-right conspiracy theorists, who speak and attend his annual AmericaFirst and other events sponsored by TPUSA.
Kirk has created several interconnected groups to further his right-wing agenda. In June 2022, TPUSA launched Turning Point Academy, in collaboration with the Dream City Christian School, also based in Phoenix. Turning Point Academy is a subdivision of TPUSA that “is dedicated to RECLAIMING the education of our children, REVIVING virtuous education focused on truth, goodness, and beauty, and RESTORING God as the foundation of education [sic].” According to the TPUSA website, Turning Point Academy is not one school but “an educational movement” that wants to advance “all types of faith-based conservative-values education,” seed Christian, conservative schools around the country; train teachers and administrators and provide resources and curriculum to support this goal.
Before we continue I feel I should warn you that there are people here who think it is dangerous to talk to me because I’m subversive and that listening to my evil rhetoric could poison your mind. I’m a big fan of disclaimers.
Nice fantasy.
And I expect their faith will lead to them putting Trump first, and their religion last. Because indulging in your own fantasies and bigotry is the point of faith, and Trump is the living incarnation of government-by-faith.
Oh I’m not making sense? Where is the part in your link that shows that “Charlie Kirk supported what happened to Charlie Kirk” exactly?
I think it’s worth it to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the second amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational.
