I confess to not understanding this comment. If there’s anything to say about the Trumpish swamp it’s that we’re far from even starting to drain it and in fact as the level rises ever higher it’s slowly spreading across the entire rest of the counrty’s higher ground.
Although perhaps you meant a different metaphor that I missed. There’s no doubt you and I agree on the basics: Trump is scum.
I ardently disagree. Chlorella, the genus including all common green algae colloqually referred to as “pond scum”, fulfill a vital role in the ecosystem, providing essential proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates synthesized directly from suspended carbon dioxide and minerals in stagnant water using only sunlight. Donald Trump, on the other hand, couldn’t even provide utility as a glove model or bird nest, and leaves a toxic slime trail wherever he has been. The only class of people who benefit from the actions of Trump are lawyers, and the benefit is limited to perpetuating the grotesque vanity and offensive corruption of Trump, his family, and his deluded coterie of apologists. Pond scum may one day provide a solution for converting sunlight to transportation fuels and the glucose economy; Trump may inadvertently cause the deaths of millions or even hundreds of millions of people through blithe ignorance. Please, do not compare algae to Trump except in the sense of, “Unlike Donald Trump, pond scum provides utility and benefit to…”
Every single day I wander down to my pigs’ pen to feed them and catch a whiff of… well, what pig pens smell like after a long winter of ceaseless rain. I tell myself, “This odor is Trump personified.”
And every single day, I scold myself for insulting the usefulness of pig manure.
It may be worth revisiting and bumping this thread.
Rasmussen … Rasmussen! … has been running Trump’s total approval at 38 and 39% for its last several releases and total disapproval at 59 to 62% They have “strongly disapprove” running 49%. Yes Rasmussen.
Rasmussen running as much to more disapproval as Gallup is now.
Damn. I can’t even trust Rasmussen’s GOP lean anymore.
There was an interesting article in today’s USA Today. Not something I read for education, but it’s often found lying around for free in hotels and I had time to kill*.
Anyhow the article was about how the Republican senate and House delegations, and by extension, the rest of mainstream Rism, are waking up to how they were totally played by Trump in the primary and in the election.
They now realize something many of us, including me, have been saying since along about March 2016: Trump is a party of one. He simply borrowed the R banner for a couple months and they foolishly lent it to him *gratis *hoping for a coat-tail effect. Well, they may have gotten a few extra Congresscritters elected, but they’re also now getting slimed pretty thoroughly and are now trying to distance themselves from the ever-expanding Trump-wreck by any means possible.
It follows, at least to me, that nobody but the hardest core twitter-believer still buys Trump’s schtick. Which means his honestly collected poll numbers amongst right-leaners are going nowhere but into the shitter. Rasmussen’s loyalties are not to Trump, but to Rism. They might be pushing their polls a bit, but if so, it’s in the ongoing service of the R movement, not the T movement.
One of the sure ways to identify an imposter in pilot’s clothes is if you see him/her buy a newspaper. Call the cops immediately. We’ll scrounge them from hotels, diners, airplanes, waiting rooms, etc. And read them thoroughly. But buying one is anathema.
Mostly traditional divides of R v D with still strong support for Trump in West Virginia and the Dakotas for example, and predictably basement where you’d expect. But going up from the bottom you find Virginia at 39 approve and Texas tied with Maine, Michigan, North Carolina, and Florida at 42. (Underwater by 9 to 14 depending on the state.)
Personally though I don’t think Rasmussen intentionally cooks the books to support the Republican interest. I think its technique has had a to now consistent lean. But if that is correct why has that lean faded?
