So, what flavour is the Trump Kool-Aid?
Rick Tyler (former Ted Cruz communications director) made an interesting observation on the selective media briefing story this morning. He suggested there was something preemptive about this strategy. [Paraphrasing] It’s as if they are priming their base for some emerging negative news to ensure they only listen to ‘approved’ news sources as opposed to the excluded ‘enemy/fake’ news sources. [/pp]
Tyler thought the news would have to do with the ongoing investigation into Trump’s ties with Russia.
Stay tuned.
fingers crossed And I’m putting my hopes on what a Cruz guy said. What has the world come to?
Chill Pill time.
Yes, I do not think it was either wise policy or procedure, but as Okrahoma has pointed out, it was not a ‘formal’ press conference (a ‘gaggle’, I believe it was called) and other presidents have used the same technique before to show displeasure/favoritism.
The thing to watch closely is if it is expanded or becomes a habit–that the same organizations are excluded every time there is a ‘gaggle’, or if they are banned/removed from the White House ‘formal’ Press Conferences.
In other words, is this a ‘one-off’, shot-across-the-bows attempt to intimidate the opposition press (fat chance), or is it part of a long-term plan to curtail press freedoms in regards to the White House.
It bears watching, IMHO. Time will tell.
Given that I have just summarised what has been said upthread that is a very stupid and ignorant statement.
Seems more like preempting the preempting. The media that was not invited has more resources than other media into investigating the Russian connections and other issues with the so-called president.
Not really, what I have seen is that a lot of the right wing media is going for a straw man, it is easy to ignore the main point, that is that Trump only avoids and condemns the media at his own peril and in an attempt to discredit what they will find or report about him.
Orange.
Orange you glad he didn’t say, “Bananas! Bananas! Bananas!” ?
:D:D
Actually, it seems to me that this is a classic example of the liberal media going for something and not doing their job of stopping to think and checking. Nothing to do with the right-wing media at all. As the OP said, it’s the job of the media to report the truth.
With the liberal media trying to discredit him like this and falling flat on their faces Trump really doesn’t need to do anything at all.
For a guy who ‘doesn’t really need to do anything at all’, he sure is busy shoveling shit from one place to another.
R-i-i-i-i-ght, froggie. That water is lukewarm now, but don’t worry, you’ll get used to it. Until you’re cooked.
Citation? The news currently reporting on this generally say it is unprecedented. Do you have information they are lacking?
E-DUB: Cool! I should have guessed that popular culture would be way ahead of anything I could envision! Spiffing link; thank you!
This.
Dominoes continue to fall.
Part of what team Trump is doing now is buying time until they’ve fully figured out how to weather the shitstorm that they know is coming.
It is fun to watch the Fitzmas-anticipation hysteria. I am sure everything you’re wishing for is coming, Belowjob.
In 24 business hours.
Trump just announced he won’t be attending the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner. That’ll show them!
I wonder, though, if these latest attempts to discredit the media have any effect. The 25% of the US population that’s congenitally pro-authoritarian have been buying the ‘media are no damn good’ storyline all their lives—and the rest of us know better.
Big news is coming, I agree, about the Russian connections. If Bannon really believes he can inoculate the entire American electorate with “Trump is Good and Perfect” beliefs, then he is more delusional than we realized.
Oh, this is going to be a good one. Whichever network gets to show it, will get monster ratings.
There comes a point in the dinner where traditionally the reporters all stand up and toast the President. I can’t imagine that happening with our so-called president.
