Trump bloody after shots fired at a Trump Rally: Jul 13, 2024

I believe presidential motorcades usually have an ambulance in them.

he was treated at a local hospital and then went to new jersey.

Yes, but this is a “former president” and “presidential candidate.” It could be different. (no idea).

There was a local hospital identified as the place they took him.

All Secret Service plans include mapping out local hospitals and the level of care available and prepositioning assets. It’s all part of the pre-event planning.

Why? Hadn’t he suffered enough? :upside_down_face:

Re: bullet vs glass - does it really make a difference? He was shot at, he was injured as a result. The difference is irrelevant, really.

Careful there, remember that two of your moderators are from New Jersey.

I’m guessing the Hospital in New Jersey is near one of his Golf Courses. He has one in Bedminster and another in Colts Neck. The Bedminster one is fairly close to Newark Airport where he flew in to. So this makes sense.

Hence the username, obvs.

CNN now has a minute-by-minute breakdown video of the incident, if that’s the sort of thing one finds useful. Remember that it is a video of people being shot (not just Trump but also the audience member and the shooter) before you click.

Irrelevant in what way? Certainly not psychologically, to anyone involved.

Glass shards could at best cut his scalp / ear. A .223 round would almost certainly kill him, with any other shot placement on the head than the one that took place.

“I was standing way off the road when a car accident happened and a piece of debris caught my head, making me bleed”

vs.

“I was standing right at the side of the road, and the flaming wreckage flew past my head, missing me by inches, killing those other folk that happened to be a small distance from me.”

He went to a local PA hospital then flew to Newark and stayed at the golf course. He didn’t need a higher level of care due to the nature of the injury.

Someone pointed out that in that hot afternoon sun, the metal roof of the building was probably very hot, perhaps even hot enough to cause burns with prolonged skin contact. That may have affected the gunman’s aim and steadiness.

I can’t find the cite but I read the teleprompters were up-armored as well as the podium. But that might only be for Presidents. You can see the teleprompter on Trump’s right appeared intact as well as the one on his left.

Sniper took picture of Trump rally shooter, saw him use rangefinder before assassination attempt, source says

  • A sniper from a local tactical team deployed to assist the U.S. Secret Service at former President Donald Trump’s rally on Saturday took a picture of the gunman and saw him looking through a rangefinder minutes before he tried to assassinate the former president, a local law enforcement officer with direct knowledge of the events told CBS News.
  • The sniper was one of three snipers, members of local tactical teams, who were stationed inside the building that the shooter used in the attack, the officer said. The operations plan had them stationed inside, looking out windows toward the rally, scanning the crowd. The details about the three snipers were first reported by the local news outlet BeaverCountian.com.
  • One sniper inside spotted the gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, outside and looking up at the roof, observing the building and disappearing, according to the officer who spoke to CBS News. The sniper observed Crooks as he returned to the building, sat down and looked at his phone. At that point, one of the local snipers took a picture of Crooks.

So the sniper recognized him on the grounds with a rangefinder and took his picture. It appears they were actively trying to keep track of him.

Holy crap. 3 snipers inside the building that was used but nobody on the roof.

That’s wow. I don’t like how they use the word “spotted” in conjunction with sniper when they just mean they saw him walking on the ground with a rangefinder (ie, they didn’t spot in through their scopes on the roof, etc.). But still.

I’ll also add, we’re going to get a lot of leaked stories of each side saying what we did right/other side did wrong type of stories (local enforcement and secret service pointing the finger). To be clear, these snipers in the article are local law enforcement, not secret service.

I was going to post more from my CBS cite but I would end up copying the whole thing so I suggest everybody read it. The sniper who took the picture attempted to send it upchannel. They observed him come back with a backpack and were actively searching for him. They lost track of him when he walked behind the building.

Interesting. Given the fact that he was looking up at the building and was using a rangefinder It appears they had a good idea of what he was up to.

It was air conditioned? I suspect they were watching a bank of screens fed by cameras in the area.

I’m wondering if there was anybody on the water tower ledge behind the buildings. A great vantage point from which to view rooftops.

If the rifle was disassembled, would it have fit in a backpack?

Is there a reason why drone surveillance isn’t employed for something like this? It seems obvious and cheap to implement.

Yes. it would have broken down or folded to fit in a backpack.

There probably was. And I suspect they could hear him on the metal roof. At the point when he returned with the backpack he should have been detained.
