I know and I hate it. I hate that we have an incoming president that talks like this. That seeps hateful bile out of his mouth at one of our closest allies. Canada has never really done us any harm.
Meanwhile when Trump’s draft number was called he ran away and hid like a coward.
As veteran of this country’s armed services I want to take a sh1t in his mouth. If I were still in the military I wouldn’t follow any order intended to harm Canada in any way and I would tell the men under my command to ignore those orders too.
I stole the cartoon below from a posting in the Canadoper Cafe, but it seems appropriate here. The bottom panel is a reference to Canada sending volunteers and equipment, including water bombers, to help with the California wildfires, as any good national neighbour would do, while the Orange Fuck threatens Canada’s economy and even its very sovereignty and the Canadian way of life.
Since there is so much fear, hate and doubt, as well as a bit too much of the USAians predicting doom or naysaying, I’ll just repeat myself from upthread:
I’m so embarrassed and ashamed of who our country elected then re-elected. I also happen to be hispanic. When I travel out of the country and people ask where I’m from I just tell them I’m Mexican
or…once the US leaves NATO and removes support of Ukraine (I have no problem anticipating those two points btw), then then non-Ukrainian Europe decides that they must take care of the Russia/Ukraine problem, without restrictions. This could include actually deciding, as remaining NATO, or some sort of EU body, actually saying “screw it, we’re going in ourselves to help Ukraine get this done once and for all.”
Ontario Premier Doug Ford has suggested going further, and cutting off electricity supplies to northern US states. Thus creating a shining example of Making America Great Again, where “shining” here has to be taken both ironically and metaphorically, since they would be both cold and dark in mid-winter.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has taken time out of her vacation to go to Trump’s place to be photographed with him and other lunkheads. After he said Canada should not be a sovereign state. The woman is a disgrace.
Is there a chance within the next 5-10 years that a Trump-like figure could emerge out of Canada? Every country has extremists. I would have to think that they watch people like Trump, and would want to emulate his successes.
While Canada is much more to the left than the US, I do worry that eventually, they’ll be under threat from an internal Trump-like figure.
