Other leaders managed to show up at an important war anniversary memorial even though it was raining kind of hard.
[sarcasm] They’re losers and not thinking of themselves first. [/s]
I suspect Trump’s support among readers of the Atlantic Monthly will drop to near zero from whatever it is now (probably near zero).
David Frum is an editor of The Atlantic. I respect his brand of conservatism and his disdain for showmanship. Trump has denied the claims, though, so I guess that is that.
Your BS meter is probably due for recalibration. This story is almost certainly true. It’s completely consistent with actual, on-the-record remarks that Trump has made about John McCain and Humayun Khan, his own behavior in Vietnam, as well as his complete lack of concern toward Russia paying the Taliban to target American troops. It’s been corroborated by multiple, independent sources and that corroboration has been verified by a legitimate press organ.
Trump will always hit back childishly at people who attack him. However calling a whole cemetery of soldiers losers doesn’t ring true to me. Anyway if he did say it I hope the sources have the guts to come out in the open and maximise any negative impact.
Seriously, recalibrate. Doing exactly that is completely on-brand for Trump.
I, too, wish that some or all of these sources would come forward and be quoted on the record. But many of them have stars on their shoulders and have seen what happened to the Vindmans.
About Vietnam, clearly not in Vietnam. Because bone spurs.
But he was busy dodging venereal disease! That was his Vietnam!
Trump’s relationship to his own military’s command has been abysmal. He can’t seem to get along with generals at all. James Mattis, who everyone I know in the military absolutely thinks the world of, and who I thought was Trump’s ONLY good cabinet choice, is long gone. Countless other generals have found him impossible to work with. And this is something Biden should definitely hit him HARD on in the debates.
With that being said, many of my friends and acquaintainces who are veterans absolutely love Trump. But many hate him as well. It seems to break down along enlisted/officer lines. The guys I know who are former boots-on-the ground enlisted guys, like Marine infantry and Army Rangers, think he’s great. The ones who are former officers in highly-skilled specialties, like Naval Aviators, submarine guys, etc, despise him.
Can you ask them what they think about this latest attack on the military by Trump? And, what they think about shutting down Stars and Stripes? I don’t have any military or ex-military in my circle of friends, and certainly not the array of different types of enlisted and officer types that you have.
Yes, of course! Thank you for the correction.
Early on a comedian said, “It tells you a lot about this Cabinet that the most mature person in it has the nickname ‘Mad Dog.’”
I don’t understand this. The POW/MIA cause used to be the third rail. Yet slagging on POWs didn’t seem to hurt him.
I SUSPECT they’ll probably say that they just don’t trust the article, because it’s all hearsay from anonymous sources.
The really bad part is how it’s at all credible, that he could have said it (because prior history). Once upon a time it sould have been dismissed as unthinkably absurd that the words would come out of any official’s mouth, it would not have even needed to be disputed, but not any more.
I am often appalled but never surprised by this guy. If he is physically capable of doing or saying something awful, he will.
That’s just how things are with Trump supporters. Any wrong things Trump does are lies spread by the fake new media, liberals, anonymous sources, disgruntled former employees, etc. Clearly his base has a large amount of denial and self-delusion going on.
So, in a really weird way, referring to his supporters in the military, Trump is actually correct?
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
