I was doing a tally for the thread, so far there is zero support for Trump’s move. I didn’t see the need to single anyone out by name in that post.
I guess then these items are becoming popular once again:
Oh, too bad. (For him, not us.)
The question in this thread was “Do you think this will survive Congress and/or the courts?” not whether it was politically-savvy or not.
Oh I didn’t realize I wasn’t allowed to mention that
You’re allowed to mention all sorts of things. However somebody-who-shall-not-be-named questioned whether there was anything to debate given that no person with functioning brain cells thinks the wall is a good idea, so “This thread isn’t actually about that” is a fair rejoinder.
I don’t know, the “will it hold” part of the title could be a sub question. I don’t see why we need to limit ourselves in order to prevent somebody in particular from having to admit something uncomfortable.
So maybe the debate should be:
Will it hold and, if so, how much new wall will actually be standing on Jan. 21, 2021?
Actually, “Will it hold” is the main question in the title.
How about you put forth the kinds of objections you’d be raising if a Democratic President was doing the same thing that Trump is doing? Then right wingers like yourself would be calling for congressional hearings, impeachment, and criminal charges over the worst constitutional outrage ever committed. But when a Republican President does it, you feel that we should allow it to stand after registering mild disapproval.
You could go look up my objections to DACA, and see if any of them might be applicable to this scenario. While you’re at it, you may want to explore your own feelings on DACA.
The Economy Act provides that agencies may perform services for other agencies on a reimbursible basis. To the extent the HHS can waive requirements of Medicaid et al under a national emergency, an interagency agreement may be able to direct DoD hospitals to accept payment from HHS’s waived requirements. So, migrants get free healthcare at DoD hospitals. If you don’t think it’s possible, I suppose we can just let the courts decide, eh?
You’ve developed this funny way of posting in which you say that nothing Trump does is a big deal, it’s all legal, everyone else’s position is wrong because of some nitpick you have… but then fifteen posts in, you admit that you don’t really like it. And yet, it always takes fifteen posts.
The question asked in the OP was “Do you think this will survive Congress and/or the courts?” not whether we supported it or not. My first post was intended to provide some additional information with regard to the legality of it. Later on (it was my third post IIRC), I was asked what my view of it was and I answered.
There’s nothing inconsistent about saying “I don’t like it but I think it’s legal”.
Its true that the Constitution says that only the House can appropriate funds, but only when it is appropriate. If it isn’t, then the President can appropriate other funds for the appropriate purpose.
I liked the part where Trump The Insecure tells us that he has a lot of money.
TRUMP: “I’ve built a lot of wall. I have a lot of money, and I’ve built a lot of wall.”
THE FACTS: He’s built no new miles of wall, lacking the money. His new construction to date has replaced existing barriers.
(There’s other fact checking in the article, guess how he did?)
In the humor section, we have the Governor of Puerto Rico threatening a lawsuit:
Yes, THAT Puerto Rico, the one known for all the federal tax dollars it pays.
Explain the joke, please.
Where is the line drawn for how much tax dollars a state/territory has to pay before you think a lawsuit from them has merit? (really asking)
I think the joke is the idea that the US has any obligations to brown people.
