Trump for congress

Yep. The Speaker of the House has always been a sitting member of Congress, but there is no requirement that this be so.

That’s why I think, if Trump for some reason really did want to be Speaker, he wouldn’t bother running to be the member of Congress for Shitwater Acres, FL. He’d be much better off barnstorming around the country for Republican candidates, and forcing them to publicly pledge to vote for him as Speaker. Almost all of the Republican caucus would fall in line immediately, and Kevin McCarthy would stare helplessly into the void realizing that the prize he’s sold his soul for has been effortlessly taken from him.

He can join Boehner in the reefer room.

Some of you people should consider being fantasy writers. We all know that none of this will come to pass.

“Barnstorming around the country for Republican candidates”? That sounds too much like work. I don’t see it happening.

It’s just showing up for rallies. He’ll love it.

If Trump is so insistent on declaring that he won the 2020 election and is still President, can we make this his second term and say he’s ineligible to run for a third term in 2024?

I question this. Those Republican candidates were there in 2016 and 2020. They saw that most people voted against Donald Trump being President. And that was before January 6. So why would any Republican seeking their own election think that pledging to help put Trump back in the White House would help them?

Because House Republicans picked up seats last year with Trump on the ticket, against all expectations. Particularly given the gerrymandered nature of House districts (which will be freshly gerrymandered for 2022), Trump’s support is a positive for the vast majority of Republican candidates.

I have a hard time believing there is a Trump effect that benefitted Republicans in general but somehow didn’t help Trump himself.

You are channeling Paul von Hindenberg.

Republicnas voted for Trump, Republican candidates will kow tow to Trump to get votes. More Democrats voted in the Presidential election, because they realize that Trump would ruin the country. That is why Republicans are trying to make it more difficult to vote.

Trump had to win at the state level to get that state’s electoral votes. Representatives only have to win their district, most of which are heavily gerrymandered. Another round of redistricting will happen before 2022, and Republican will completely control the process for the majority of House seats.

For the most part it never did happen. He would show up and try to turn every event into a Trump Rally-Candidates would be lucky if he mentioned them at all.

That’s right, and it’s not at all unlikely that despite the fact that the GOP has fewer registered voters with every passing day, they will regain the House in 2022.

Then they:

  1. declare Trump Speaker
  2. impeach Biden and Harris simultaneously (why not?), and
  3. crown Trump President-for-Life.

Trump seems to be deteriorating pretty fast, but that doesn’t mean that Republicans would think this a bad plan. They’d probably carry it through even if Donald has to be propped up like Bernie.

Please elaborate on the part where the Republicans pick up 17 seats in the Senate when there are only 14 Democrats up for reelection.

Fourteen might be enough, if “reform” of the filibuster goes through. Or if Mitch finds a way to simply deep-six Senate rules and declare that 52 votes (or however many the GOP ends up with after the 2022 election) are enough to vote to convict on impeachment charges.

There’s always a way when you have the will to power.

Filibuster or no, 2/3 of the Senate needs to convict. Ain’t gonna happen.

I think Orangeanus is going to be far too busy in court to even consider a run for Congress, particularly since he thinks that position would be beneath him.

He’d also have to “deep-six” Article I Section 3 of the Constitution;

The Senate shall have the sole power to try all impeachments. When sitting for that purpose, they shall be on oath or affirmation. When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside: And no person shall be convicted without the concurrence of two thirds of the members present.

(Bolding added) Just slip a Mickey to all the Dems. Problem solved.

I’ve heard several people mention this recently. How so? It’s quite possible I’ve missed a few news stories.
