ABC story here. CNN’s version is here.
Got to give him credit when it’s due.
Wow! That’s some extreme vetting!
Robotics? No worries of remote control bombs?
Or was there no reason to deny the visas in the first place?
ETA: I see why you prefer the ABC story.
Which would not have been needed except for his ridiculous Muslim travel ban.
You don’t get credit for helping some people who are victims of the problems that are of your own creation.
Trump takes one small step back from a large problem he created. I’d say the blame-to-credit ratio is around 1000:1.
He fetched that Marine’s hat, too. The man is a god damned saint.
Well, yes you do, in tyrannical authoritarian regimes.
Under such style of governing, the citizenry needs to give credit to the tyrant for letting them live another day.
That that is the standard by which cheeto in charge is now judged by is a bit problematic, though.
he probably noticed that one of them is a hottie
Do they having dressing rooms at the contest?
Sooooo many openings it’s impossible to pick one!
Is there a swimsuit part of the contest?
Visas for schoolgirls? Sounds like a good trade.

How exactly did Trump create the original problem? I don’t recall him being in office when the refugee crisis began. I don’t recall him drawing a red line and then not following through.
They reason they had issues coming in were of his own making so no, he doesn’t get any credit.
Were the girls refugees? The article says they’re a robotics team.
Trump loves robots.
What exactly do refugees have to do with these schoolgirls?
In the CNN article, it is said
Your OP and thread title is misplaced; they did not get a visa.
As it is, some of the people here have a misplaced view. Travel ban or no Travel ban, the rate of refusal for visa Applicants for Afghanistan is more than 7/10 in FY2016.
This probably has little to do with the travel ban.
Wow. Cute manipulation of the facts there. Ignoring entirely what trump did and didn’t do, and then slyly hearkening back to a mistake by the previous administration which has nothing whatsoever in any way to do with the present situation. Very “Fake news” of you.
As for “giving Trump credit,” he earned none with this. The Travel Ban was from the beginning, just an irresponsible and functionless political ploy to endear a certain section of the more ignorant American electorate to himself. Once he put that in place through Executive Orders, without support from Congress, and made a big mess of things in the sloppy manner in which he initiated it, it was quashed by the Courts. He reinstituted an even more meaningless but irritating lesser version of it, again just to pander to certain Americans.
Now, it turns out there is this one very high profile instance where his poorly thought out temporary ban, is preventing some female scholars from coming to the US, their story was very appealing, so in order to AGAIN pander for publicity , Trump has interceded against his own Executive Order to gain some positive publicity for himself.
Since everything about this was all about Trump looking good through manipulating publicity stunts, he deserves as much condemnation for making the exception, as he does for putting the thoughtless temporary ban in place to begin with.
The travel ban…does.not.apply.to.Afghanistan.
Please, let’s not be Trumpeseque is our ignorance
I’m confused. Afghanistan was never one of the countries on the “Travel Ban” list, was it? Is that what people are referring to as the issue that Trump created? What is the issue here?
Then I must be misunderstanding, exactly what original problem was being referred to? I thought it was referring to the travel ban. Obviously he wants the ban in place because of terror threats but also because of the concern that terrorists are getting in through the plight of the refugees. I don’t want to high jack the thread but I wanted to explain how I understood the comment.
