Trump going after McRaven

You’re unfamiliar with last year’s tax cut bill? The way they pretended that it would decrease the deficit so they could use reconciliation to avoid the filibuster was with a clause that said that if the tax cuts didn’t decrease the deficit after some number of years, it’d make up for it with automatic cuts to Medicare.

The fact that he has it at all makes it such that the military has lost my vote.

Yes, indeed. And nicely developed in this Washington Post piece.

I think The USAF and USN also have much higher ratios of women than the other two branches. As noted in the survey linked above, Trump does especially poorly there.

Nope, he’d blindside him.

 Cite? Many veterans post here.

You’re probably half-right. This is not a good forum for reaching those Americans who are uncertain about which of Trump and McRaven is the more moral and admirable man.

I have started a poll on this subject here.

Well, strictly speaking this isn’t the forum for reaching a large audience of anybody. Every active poster could turn out to be a veteran and that wouldn’t change.

I’ll put it this way: think about the fact that a good 30-35% of the general population is conservative enough to vote for him no matter what. Consider the fact that the military tends to be even more conservative than the general population. It’s not like the Berniecratic party is going to nominate McRaven, so in a way, I’m inclined to agree with HurricaneDitka in that the Repubs might not like Trump, but there’s a good chance the military likes the Democratic nominee even less.

the military vote depends on who the Dem nominee is. They are more likely to vote for a veteran as the nominee . Right now most of the names listed as Dem front runners for 2020 , I don’t think any are veterans.

It’s already been brought up here, but I just want to point out again that McRaven has lymphocytic leukemia. He’s not going to keel over anytime soon because of it, but the real possibility — even certainty — of hospitalization would make a serious presidential run difficult. The Berniecrats need not be blamed here.

Tammy Duckworth is one of the names that’s getting bandied about, and she’s rather prominently a veteran.

never heard of Duckworth as a front runner for 2020 but I guess it depends on which source you read. She is listed more as a possible VP pick.

I’m well aware of that.

My point is, however disenchanted members of the military might be with Trump, they still tend to lean conservative when it comes to military affairs, national security, defense spending, and macroeconomics. I’m not sure if that’s going to sit well with democrats, particularly when you consider that in 2018, the Democrats are moving to the left. The centrist veteran might not energize the factions on the left.

“I don’t know about this Jesus guy… his real name is probably Hay-seuss.”

in all those paintings of Jesus he has long hair and a beard. Clearly a commie pinko tree hugger.

“He’s not a Messiah. He’s a religious hero because he was captured and crucified. I like people that weren’t captured and crucified. I mean, come on. When the time came he was screaming for his daddy.”

Nitpick: Whatever Trump supporters are, it isn’t “conservative.”

You might be surprised.

Getting a fair number in my IMHO poll.
