There’s a theory that an attack or war boosts the president’s popularity.

But I don’t think that’s really true. Wars aren’t universally popular. You can’t just gin up a war whenever you feel like it and have the public rally round the flag. The public first has to trust the leaders sending them to battle before the leaders can hoodwink them.

Same thing with a terrorist attack. If there isn’t the aforementioned trust, then the public blames the leaders for not preventing the attack. There have been plenty of attacks that brought down governments that failed to respond appropriately to the attacks.

I wish I could share your optimism. It’s not that war is universally popular. It just ends up playing that Trump was right all along to ban the Muslims and we’ve gotta clamp down even harder and show them who’s boss! I have little reason to believe that that is not how it would play out in today’s climate.

Not to mention all the disturbing legislation that followed, all in the name of “patriotism.” I don’t know if I’m cynical enough yet to think that the Trump administration would intentionally allow a terrorist attack so they could abuse the response. But with all the incompetence on display, an attack is probably far more likely anyway, and I don’t doubt for a second that Trump would milk it for all it was worth.

Well they’ll certainly TRY to use terrorist attacks to get sympathy/popularity for their disgusting policies.

Case in point:

Anti-immigrant white supremacist shoots up mosque and kills Muslims; Shithead Spicer tries to spin this as a GOOD THING that the Trumpster is so tough on Muslim refugees, students and IT workers on holiday. Seriously, it doesn’t even make any sense, but that’s the spin they are using. It’s idiotic.

More approval ratings. Since we’re talking about the giant orange anus, I should probably call them disapproval ratings. The only poll showing him with a net approval rating is one poll from 2 weeks ago. All others show him with varying levels of net disapproval.
