Jack Nicholson was cajoled into telling the truth, and he actually made a somewhat compelling argument for what he did.
Trump will not tell the truth, he will blather on with meaningless lies. I’m less holding out hope that this gets his enablers and sycophants to turn against him, but increases the Democrats (including their voters) resolve to continue to hold Republicans accountable for their behavior, as well as potentially being able to charge him with perjury, but that’s a more minor matter.
Sen. Ron Johnson, a Republican from Wisconsin, said the push for witnesses will “further inflame the situation”
Oh goodness! We would not want to “further inflame” things beyond a president sending a mob to the Capitol Building to kill the Vice President and stop the counting of Electoral Votes!
What’s he threatening? More violence? This sounds like more mob boss talk.
Does the fifth amendment apply here? It is not a trial in the usual sense in that if found guilty, Trump would be deprived of life, liberty, or property (unless you count what he can further grift). All they can do is turn him out of office (already done) and prevent him from holding any federal office or position of trust. Hell, he can even be governor of Wyoming* if he wants to run for that.
*The state with the largest percentage voting for Trump.
If I were the impeachment manager, I’d call Sidney Powell to the stand, just to see her spout off a bunch of crazy ass stuff about mole-men and the zombie Hugo Chavez and make the Republicans defend her.
Yes, true. But “… that will be a pretty strong indication he’s guilty.” is wrong wrong WRONG a thousand times wrong. Everyone has this right and it is no more a indication of guilt that hiring a lawyer. It is a basic right enshrined in the Bill of Rights.
That’s disappointing. I don’t think this is the absolute best case the House Managers could have made, and regardless of how certain acquittal is, IMO it’s important to make the absolute best case possible, and that would require witnesses.
