Trump Impeachment II: Insurrection Boogaloo

Yeah, winning the House, the Senate and the White House, that’s nothing. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Pelosi has the balls to do it, but also the smarts not to.

The defense just claimed that the stipulated evidence (that resulted in no witnesses being called) was not agreed to be true. Does he misunderstand the term “stipulate”, or do I?

If the investigation will just lead to a acquittal, why do it?

We need a health plan, we need a Immigration plan, we need lots of stuff on Biden’s & Pelosi’s plate instead of just wasting time.

there were two purposes here:

  1. In Early January, there was still a chance we could get 17 GOP votes.

  2. Make each Republican to show his vote to acquit on the public record.

At the time of the call, McCarthy was in genuine fear for his life, and the orange shit-gibbon was flagrantly enjoying – from a safe distance – the ongoing demonstration of his supporters’ fealty. Once the danger was over, McCarthy went back to being a douchebag politician. He notably visited Mar-a-Lago recently to kiss the shit-gibbon’s orange ass.

The problem with making much of the McCarthy call is that the star witness appears to have a major case of politically-induced amnesia.

I stopped watching as soon as that guy started talking, so this is just a guess. I suspect he understands the term but is now asserting that what was stated by House Managers in their closing arguments is not what he stipulated to. That is likely to result in reopening the witness discussion.

For the lawyers in the group: How are Trump’s attorneys doing in your opinion, leaving poitics out of it? Above par, par or not so par?

After closing arguments? I don’t really follow this lawyer stuff.

I think that’s a big part of the problem with this “trial.” Trump’s lawyers are approaching this like a criminal case. It’s not, and the rules are different. Of course, Trump supporters don’t know this, and Trump, along with his lawyers and Senate Republicans, count on this.

Re when the lawyer raised his objection to the stipulated testimony in the record, I can’t really fault him for that. If the first time he learned that House Managers were going to materially misrepresent what was agreed to (so he asserts) is when they presented their closing arguments, then that would be his first opportunity to raise such objections.

IANAL as you know. Just offering my opinions.

Did turdface just blame the insurrection on the BLM ‘riots’ earlier in the year?

This jag lawyer can’t bring himself to say the full word “Democratic”. Damn these Republicans are petty childish douchebags.

Let me boldly go on record to state that if a Democratic President fomented an attack on either other branch of the Federal government, I’d be howling for their hide as well.

I realize what this lawyer is saying is simply courtroom or political hot air, but I’m thinking it’s too bad we don’t allow duels any more. Would he be impugning the reputation of the Democrats in the house in general and the impeachment managers in particular if he could face the working end of a pistol as a result?

I hope there’s a rebuttal allowed.

This was starting to get to me. I started cleaning just so i wouldn’t have to look at him.

And not a court of law!!!

That makes sense if the game is on the line, but if there are 5 seconds left on the clock and you are behind 24 to 7. You aren’t going to win anyway, and you may not want to risk injuring your start running back on a fruitless play.

No one who hasn’t already been convinced by the evidence given so far is going to be convinced by any new evidence, This impeachment trial serves three purposes. First, as a matter or pricinipal to raise an objection to Trumps behavior in as strong a manner as is legally allowed. Second to turn public opinion against Trump and by extension the GOP. Finally to get Republican senators on record as condoning insurrection. I think that the impeachment succeeded in all three of these goals the extent that is it was possible given the blind partisanship that exists in this country.

I also think that there should (and hopefully will) be a more thorough investigation into lack of preparation and response to the attacks which should include many witnesses and go beyond the actions of Trump and into possible actions of other members of Congress. We can delve down into the details at that time.

Absolutely. Don’t let this nugget slip away. Dig in, get more information, and publicize the hell out of it.

Yeah, get the impeachment out of the way, so that the criminal prosecutions can start in earnest.

This. I think that one reason for the deal to not call witnesses is that the Republicans let is be known in private conversation that McCarthy was prepared to take the stand and lie his ass off.

And now the vote…

It’s not like that would be the ONLY “pretty strong indication he’s guilty”…

I suspect not just members of Congress but their families have been threatened. Not just the Democrats and Pence, but all the Republicans. Pity I don’t have proof of it, though.

That is insulting to pussies.

The Democrats were trying to convince the court of public opinion. That’s how it looks to me. You weren’t going to get most of the Republicans to move (I don’t know if Trump has blackmail materials, has threatened their families, bought their souls, or what…) But if you can move public opinion, well, that’s part of the political game.

Perhaps they shouldn’t.

Lord knows the US has plenty of enemies that would love to see it crash and burn.
