All politics is local.
Trump became the first man from Queens to be impeached in 2019. Two years later, he became the first man from Queens to be impeached twice.

Question about DeSantis’s potential refusal to extradite Trump. We know the Constitution requires that he do so and that he has no authority to ignore it. But assume he does anyway. We’ve talked about what would happen to Trump in that scenario. Are there any legal consequences for DeSantis? Could the DOJ charge him with aiding a fugitive or something?
Would that be US Marshalls, or would it be a different agency?
I think of the Marshalls as they are usually what I think of when I think of chasing fugitives across state lines.
Looks to be Tuesday afternoon for the arraignment:
With respect to the Feds, I believe the FBI would be the primary law enforcement arm to facilitate an arrest.
He will probably be given the same opportunity/courtesy to surrender on the warrants as Manhattan has granted, provided he follows through with surrendering to Manhattan. If he doesn’t, well…
Interesting question. What happens when government officials fail to perform their Constitutionally required duties and obligations. Let’s ask Mitch McConnell.
The Twitter link above includes, “Congratulations to Donald Trump for winning a majority of votes!”
Bill Barr isn’t running the DOJ anymore, so I have a little hope!
That’s just excellent. Second time this thread has made me laugh out loud.

I’ve seen this idea floated, but I can’t see it happening, either.
He stated he won’t help with the extradition effort.
But there’s a wide gap between not helping and actively putting up roadblocks to extradition. The last thing he said about that was the state of Florida would not intervene. That works both ways.
To my mind, he won’t stand in the way of anything, so he will still honestly be able to say he did not provide any aid towards it. It’s Politico Speak 101 and people, especially his base, fall for it every day.
IA(very definitely)NAL, but my guess is that Governor Hochul of NY, as “the executive Authority of the State from which [Trump] fled,” could sue Florida in Federal court to compel Florida to deliver him up, in the wording of Article IV.
This case would go directly to the Supreme Court, I believe: Article III says that if a state is a party to a case, SCOTUS has original jurisdiction.
Presumably even the current Supreme Court could not ignore the direct wording of the Constitution, and would hold DeSantis in contempt if he failed to deliver Trump to the hands of New York state. But given the current SCOTUS, ‘presumably’ is doing some heavy lifting there. My hope is that even hacks like Alito and Kavanaugh would realize that not forcing DeSantis to hand him over would further erode the Court’s authority, and it’s getting pretty brittle these days.
Aw! you screwed the wrong lay!
Darn! you pissed off the DA!
Hooray! I’m for the other team!
You have to get behind someone before you can stab them in the back.
Good advice.
When the Supreme Court ignores the direct wording,
And with treason they’re a-flirting,
It’s Constitutional Crisis Time!
Trump’s Lawyer: “The defendant stands mute, your honor”.
{courthouse erupts in laughter}
Ahhh. Thank you.
This indictment makes it easier for Fani Willis (among others) to arrest him in the future since it necessitates him being outside of Florida frequently.
It’s just a politcal show for DeSantis, as he know Trump will turn himself in to the NYC authorities in order to appear like a martyr. Trump isn’t about to be stuck campaigning from Florida, afraid to leave the state. That would be DeSantis’s dream.
Isn’t that the opposite of this, or are you speaking about a different scenario?
