Trump indicted

The range I see on the 3 different 757 variants would drop the plane into the Atlantic ocean.

I can’t speak for NY, but I’ve never seen booking info include weight.

“The Constitution? It’s old, out of date, we don’t follow no stinking Constitution”

FWIW, NBC News Radio expects Trump to be arrested on Tuesday.

For some people, the 2nd amendment is the ONLY thing they follow or respect in the entire document.

(Re DeSantis declaring he would not cooperate with extradition:)

[Other than to comply - right?]

Thanks, yes - I get that. But his declaration that he wouldn’t cooperate with an extradition request - I assumed that was to get MAGAs onside, and therefor a - uh - “wise and necessary” thing to do? I’m not seeing political stupidity here. But then I’m not from 'round these parts - please do feel free to educate me.

It’s up to the judge to decide when to unseal the indictment(s). DA Alvin Bragg has said he is not requesting that it be unsealed early. So unless someone leaks, we won’t know anything for sure until Tuesday the 4th at the arraignment.

There is widespread chatter from reliable news sources that there are roughly 30 charges contained in the indictment, but we don’t know if that’s accurate.

Hope this helps.

Perhaps he hopes that this will cause Trump to lose the nomination, and gather votes of Trump supporters for him.

I am glad Nancy Pelosi has such a good grasp of our legal system.

“The Grand Jury has acted upon the [facts and the law]. No one is above the law, and everyone has the right to a trial to prove innocence.”

So much for the presumption of innocence.

Right, but I hadn’t heard one way or the other if the indictment will even be unsealed at the arraignment or not. Is the arraignment when definitely we’d see all those cards, or not necessarily even then? Can someone be arraigned on secret charges?

Well, this is purely my opinion, but I’ll share it because you asked.

DeSantis has exactly zero authority to ignore the laws of extradition in his state. He has no authority to interfere in the legal process of another state or local jurisdiction such as Manhattan. What’s he going to do if Trump decides to stick fast in Mar-A-Lago? Send some local police to fend off other local police who would be tasked with facilitating Trump’s arrest?

He might please a few Floridians and MAGA types, but he’s going to piss off a whole lot of other people. He’s sinking his national campaign fast.

Let’s say Trump blows off the surrender date on April 4th and DeSantis manages to stop his own police forces in Florida from executing on the warrant issued from Manhattan. (That’s how extraditions usually work.) Trump is now stuck in Florida, can’t leave the state to campaign or anything else, because as soon as he sets foot in any state not willing to pull a DeSantis, he’s arrested.

Since he chose to not surrender, he’ll be treated to the full assortment of indignities associated with an arrest: Frogmarch, handcuffs, etc. He’ll have a high bail set because he’s established he’s a flight risk. When will that happen? Either when Trump leaves Florida, or when Jack Smith indicts on either the documents or January 6th case. The Feds aren’t going to be deterred by a rogue governor with no authority to interfere with the lawful execution of a warrant.

At that point, federal charges would traditionally take precedence. Once the Feds are done with Trump, they will still turn him over to Manhattan so the Manhattan DA so they can complete their case. So what would Trump gain? All he will do is delay the inevitable, and for failing to surrender as promised, he’ll suffer additional charges against him.

That’s how I think it would unfold if Trump fails to surrender on Tuesday. And DeSantis is going to look more weak than he already is.

The charges will be a matter of public record and we will learn them all on Tuesday, assuming everyone shows up for the arraignment.

So…excuse my ignorance. The following is a real question and am very curious about the answer.

What happens when Trump just says it ‘is political’ and ignores it?

He gets treated like your average Sovereign Citizen (ie, not well).

Thanks for clarifying

Interesting. Thanks for that. So you think the smart thing for DeSantis to have done would have been to simply keep his mouth shut?

He will learn in a very intimate way the meaning of the term, “the long arm of the law.” Just like every other defendant before him who blew off a warrant surrender date.

I do. DeSantis should just say he will carry out his duties as the Governor of the State of Florida within the letter of the law, and leave it at that.

Instead, he is attempting to promote a constitutional crisis by ignoring the Constitution which he professes to love so much.

As Aspenglow described above. NY will ask Florida to extradite him. They are legally required to do so, but if they don’t, then there’s not to much NY can do. At the same time, Trump will be unable to leave Florida, because if he sets foot in another state THEY’LL be legally required to extradite him to NY. And the whole thing will become much messier, with an actual arrest instead of a voluntary surrender, handcuffs, bail (or not), the whole 9 yards.

Not so speak for @Aspenglow , but DeSantis and Mike Pence (so far) are really trying to thread a needle.

Trump proved that you need the deplorables in order to win*. Keeping them for a Primary win, while not alienating huge swaths of the country by doing what it takes TO keep the Trump voter loyal, is no mean feat.

With the stipulation that they all play politics, all the time, Pence and DeSantis have had to find yet another gear on this one.

IMHO.
