It’s an interesting exercise: How much would Trump have to offer to make acceptance a realistic option? I mean, it has to at a minimum cover relocating to a different country, for those who see this as both inevitable, and undesirable. So, buy their house from them, plus enough to cover a move from an isolated northern community to somewhere in Europe.

It’s an annual figure. At $500k per person, that’s roughly $30 Billion a year, which is not going to happen.
I think it’s the other way around. They figured out a maximum price they wanted to pay and divided it by the population. And then never did a sanity check on the result to see if it made sense.

See, with a big one time payment, the Greenlanders could make sure they get the money up front. Ask for double, offer to take half now and half after the US takes over, knowing that they’ll never see the second half, but the first half will be enough.
