They are about the size of Scotland, but a lot of us depend on them for their pharmaceutical wherewithal: Denmark’s real defense mechanism is its pharmaceutical trade, and they provide about 74% of the insulin imports, a little under 50% of Novo Nordisk. When Trump attacks Denmark, he is indirectly attacking the American public.

Ask yourself, Qui bono? Who benefits? Any disruption to NATO is a direct benefit to Putin and his Russia.
Also, as I heard on NPR this morning, there is already a treaty between the US and Denmark (from 1951) that allows much more US military presence, just for the asking, than we now have. We used to have (memory of actual numbers may not be entirely accurate, but it should be close) 7 bases with 15K people, which we have voluntarily drawn down to part of 1 base and 150 people. If we want to protect ourselves and Greenland from incursions from Russia and China, the easy first step is to step back in.

Which is just more evidence that “Greenland must be protected” and “America needs Greenland” is nothing more than pretext.
This all comes down to “what is in this for Trump?” Money, revenge, and/or bragging rights.
I mean, I think it’s as simple as pointing out that there is no possible aspect or scenario in which threatening to go to war with Denmark is a good idea. It accomplishes exactly nothing of value, except perhaps in Trump’s deluded perception, and it undermines many things that are of value, as you illustrate.

Not the fact that NATO has already sent token forces to assist Denmark in the threat to its territorial integrity coming from the member of NATO with the largest defense budget in the world? Not the fact that France, Germany, Italy, Poland, the UK, and Denmark felt the need to issue a joint statement affirming Greenland’s sovereignty in response to TFG? Not the fact that TFG’s alleged ‘reasons’ are utter horseshit since the US already has complete and unfettered military access to Greenland in order to ‘protect’ it from illusionary threats from Russia and China just as it had throughout the entirety of the Cold War? And still operates Pituffik Space Base in Greenland at this very moment? And maintained no less than 17 bases in Greenland during the Cold War? Not TFG putting tariffs on our own allies for daring to take the NATO charter and territorial integrity seriously in the face of his absurd demands? Not that it’s a threat of blatant expansionism for absolutely no good or sane reason that would do irreparable harm to NATO?

Reading it in its entirety, your link looks to find a way for Denmark to fight the U.S. without blood and gore — or even death. That’s why they push for Denmark to stop export of weight loss drugs and NOT insulin.

RFK Jr is at heart against weight loss drugs. If Denmark really goes this way, the U.S. government will respond with diet advice, criticism of drug long term effectiveness, and perhaps even fat-shaming.
As for what could be a more effective threat, I think Greenlanders threatening a long war of attrition has greater chance of successful deterrence.

That Wiki page highlights an interesting bit of the trreaty between Denmark ad the United States.
Given his stance towards NATO, maybe he doesn’t want his vanity project to bleed more personnel when that base gets closed after he pulls us out of NATO.
If Trump succeeds in getting the U.S. military to conquer Greenland, he certainly can get them to keep occupying illegal bases.
What U.S. annexation would do to Greenland is terrible. It also would make the U.S. a more terrible rule by decree dictatorship.
I have a radical idea. Let Russia and China set up shop in Greenland. Let them spend a trillion dollars trying to dig precious minerals out of the ice sheet that covers the entire goddamn country. Let them overextend their military forces setting up bases there that no one wants to be stationed at. If China had a toehold in Greenland, it would quickly develop frostbite. As for the idea of Russia even being able to reach Greenland, it is to laugh.
I don’t know about you or yours but just a short duration of insulin shortage will sicken and/or kill a lot of people. I don’t care if Trump gets his Wegovy pen. The GLP-1 products alone have caused a slight disruption as companies divert manufacturing. Trump can turn into a blimp for all I care.
What will happen as Trump decides in his pea brain that Denmark is targeting USA he’ll retaliate way before we can find alternatives in manufacturing and supplies. Not even realizing or caring it’s all his fault.
