Trump now wants to use military force to take the Panama Canal and Greenland

Nope. This is not how DJT thinks at all. He wants it, he will get it. That’s it. Anyone who gets in the way will be punished.

What

Um, I’m reminded of this quote by Admiral Isoroku Yamato “There will be a rifle behind every blade of grass”

I would bet that at least half the homes in Greenland at least have a hunting rifle or three. Polar Bears anyone?

And these people are equipped for and understand the climate.

If the USA tries to take it. It’s not gonna be pretty.

And of course WTF???

Fairly strong words from Rep. Don Bacon, (R) Nebraska, regarding the idea of trump invading Greenland:

“There’s so many Republicans mad about this,” the Nebraska congressman told the Omaha World-Herald in a recent interview. “If he went through with the threats, I think it would be the end of his presidency. And he needs to know: The off-ramp is realizing Republicans aren’t going to tolerate this and he’s going to have to back off. He hates being told no, but in this case, I think Republicans need to be firm.”

He added, “It’s utter buffoonery to think that we should compel Greenland to be part of the United States.”

Estimated number of guns per 100 people; Greenland, 22.3 ranking them at 13th highest.

Leaving aside the argument Trump can do whatever he wants, is “invade and conquer Greenland” a legitimately legal order that must be obeyed absent an actual declaration of war?

Reading about this guy, he’s more of a centrist Republican, who represents a swing district in Nebraska that often votes Democrat. He has broken with party ranks before. He considers himself a “Reagan Republican”.

I didn’t know that any of those guys even existed anymore. I don’t know if there are enough of them to actually matter, but maybe.

There’s also the Senate to worry about, though, even if the House manages to get enough support to push an impeachment through (which again, I doubt).

Thanks for the stats. No one could win here though. Sure, we got carpet bombing, but that might be frowned upon.

Germany and France are sending people. i don’tknow what people, but they are.

Wait until Trump finds out it isn’t green.

Writing my senators yet again. This is absurd. We have a traitor in the White House.

Well, I hope this part is true:

I’m utterly gobsmacked that trump has been allowed to do, say and get away with everything he has so far. But there has to be a bridge too far at some point. Is pushing to invade and conquer a NATO ally that bridge? Especially with trump’s popular support tanking. The only reason all those spineless Repubs are so scared of him is because their constituents have, up to now, strongly backed up trump. If that goes away, trump and trumpism is toast.

I’d hope so and the fact that even Joe Rogan is pushing back suggests we might be getting closer to that point.

Bacon is an old-guard hawk pubby, a product of the previous century. Former commander (retired AF Brigadier General) of the main flying wing of the local air base, with reconnaissance and command-and-control missions, so always busy and always involved even before the first missile flies.

He has publicly bent the knee to Trump before, but never sincerely AFAICT.

All of this would strike directly at everything he cares about and spent an adult life defending, so it’s not surprising.

He’s also not running for re-election, so that’s considerably freeing as well.

Given that we see something that’s surely going to bring Trump down, and that gets yanked away like Lucy yanking the football, I’m reluctant to put too much faith in it. But yes, there could very well be a breaking point, a line that hasn’t been reached yet, and the way Trump keeps getting away with stuff might be his undoing. He might figure he can do anything he wants, and that might be true until it isn’t.

There is also the TACO option; Trump backs off as soon as he realizes there might be an actual consequence. That’s also something that has happened many times before.

Rifles aren’t how a modern resistance movement is fought, those just get you killed. You need bombs, lots of bombs; something that lets you attack the enemy without getting immediately killed (likely before even getting to actually use the rifle).

At any rate, I expect an actual war would start with their towns being flattened by bombs, and then the survivors being hunted down with drone strikes as “terrorists” while trying to survive without shelter in Greenland’s climate. If there’s any survivors, they probably get deported to South America as “illegals”.

I hate to admit this…but suddenly I’m all for a US invasion of Greenland (as long as no one dies). Go for it!

I’m torn. I want Trump taken down, but if it’s after the US tries to establish a military takeover of Greenland, I don’t know that it’s worth it. Maybe? I don’t know.

Oh sure.

Well, where the eff are they? They need to be stepping up and speaking out!

Credit to France, Germany, and other European states for sending (a few) troops to Greenland. Some form of deterrence, even if symbolic, is essential. NATO’s credibility is at stake.

It is sad that I have lived to see a time when NATO has to protect nations from being invaded by the United States. I’m watching the USA with the classic role of USSR.

There’s got to be a bridge too far…but I’ve long stopped guessing where that point might be. I’m no longer wholly convinced there is a point. But when we get there, my guess it’ll be something really, really stupid that starts an avalanche against Trump/MAGA.

Really, really stupid already happened. A couple of times. Including insurection.

No one in congress or SCOTUS will fight this toothless monster, and I don’t understand.
