I don’t think the SS will be driving the decision for where he’s incarcerated. I think there are existing facilities that will serve the purpose. I think he’s going to get the Frankie Pentangeli treatment. Safe, isolated, nothing cruel, but a complete loss of freedom.
The only real examples of one prisoner/one facility I can think of are Napoleon Bonaparte and Rudolf Hess. One escape, one suicide. Hopefully I’m missing some happier examples.
A bunch of presidents, internationally, have gone to prison. Does anyone know if they were isolated and/or locked up with armed personal bodyguards?
I know it is completely on the other side of the country, but may I suggest a charmingly renovated ferderal prison: Alcatraz.
It has everything he needs. Isolation. Impossibility of escape. No other inmates. Accomodation for the Secret Service. The possibility of tourists to visit, to point and laugh.
Pablo Escobar was quite happy in his custom-built jail:
I don’t think there were any other prisoners in there but from the article it sounds like he definitely wasn’t alone there either.
It isn’t mentioned in the article but I remember from Mark Bowden’s book Killing Pablo that there was a secret tunnel in this facility that allow Pablo to come and go as he pleased.
Good one to remember, but, as you sort of mention, not a good model to follow. He escaped and was never recaptured.
P.S. Napoleon on Elba and Escobar are both examples where the VIP gets treated much better than an ordinary prisoner. Mistake, just as it would be a mistake to treat Trump worse than normal.
Those Stormy daniels indictments are class E felonies= each could carry a sentence of 4 years. Mind you that is unlikely.
I suspect it will be a year+ 3 years suspended, and in-house arrest. Tha is due to the security problems. Plus a huge fine.
The judge should be influenced by a first offense white collar crime- plus security issues. So, like I said- no more than 1 year house arrest + suspended sentence + fines.
And why does that prevent Trump from being imprisoned? Again, that’s the whole purpose of this thread: Why can’t the Secret Service protect Trump in prison just as well as they can anywhere else?
Yeah, this just keeps coming up. If he gets house arrest, I don’t think it will be because of Secret Service issues. It would be trivially easy to accommodate an SS detail. Or the SS could delegate their duty to the DoC.
People where they keep the prisoners cant have guns. Police officers surrender their firearms before going in. And you are gonna make some Secret Service agents live like prisoners? Unfair to them.
See above.
When I was on the Civil Grand Jury, we had to inspect all jails, and unless it is a youth facility, the facilities are grim. How is it “trivial” ?
We dont know how many Agents protect trump, but=
Kessler said that when George W. Bush left office, the threat level was such that he had around 75 officers protecting him and his wife Laura to cover shifts around the clock.
They will be a minimum of 4 agents each shift, 24/7.
“Simply, the law mandates it and the Secret Service would have to provide protection, even in jail, as only the protectee may end it,” he wrote.
*But Miller said that would be “exceptionally problematic” for the Secret Service and create a whole lot of challenges. *
“And quite frankly, I don’t think there would ever be a scenario where he would be placed in a jail with other people,” he said. “That would be problematic across the spectrum.”
I’d imagine that “putting up with whatever living conditions the president is in” is part of the job description. When Bush went to Baghdad, nobody said “It’s too hot and dry for the SS agents.”
No. they stay outside the prisoner area, which is how so many prisoners get shanked. The Secret Service is not gonna let trump get shanked, or beat up, etc.
Anyway, my cite made it clear. Argue with that expert.
You should get right on the horn to the Secret Service, because they’re reportedly already in discussions with the Department of Corrections regarding Trump’s possible incarceration. They may not be aware of your research.
Cite? I gave mine, and it makes it clear- nope. And the DOC is not the Secret Service- and the LAW states Secret Service. Unless you think the GOP controlled House will revise it just for trump?
But here is the cite-
Despite an explosion of posts across social media that the Secret Service has met with the New York Department of Corrections to make arrangements for that possibility based on reporting from CBS News, there has been no formal statement of any such discussions. *The article in question cites a source in the NY corrections who believes it’s a possibility that preparations have been made.
So read that last line.
Now read-
Levin thinks that house arrest, followed by probation could be appealing for the jurist overseeing the trial who doesn’t want to be seen as interferring with the 2024 election in which Trump is the presumptive nominee.
