It’s not possible to run a prison without ever entering the prisoner area. They don’t stay in the prisoner area all the time, of course, but neither would the Secret Service agents. They have shifts like any other worker.
The wardens rarely do, but yeah the guards do, sure.
But my cite made it clear.
OK, sorry, I didn’t realize you were making a distinction between wardens and prison guards. But regardless, prison guards don’t live like prisoners, either. Secret Service agents would be there under basically the same circumstances as prison guards.
I know you all want to see trump in an orange jumpsuit in the grey bar hotel- and so do I- but it is a fantasy,* However- it aint gonna happen- my cites made that clear.
*except perhaps overnite in jail.
Who do not protect the prisoners from each other for any decent %.
Use your own cite, which affirms that discussions have reportedly taken place. Of course there has been no official statement. If he’s acquitted, there never will be.
And as your cite notes, house arrest would be an appealing option for the judge, but not for concerns re: the logistics of SS protection. As I stated, if he gets house arrest, it won’t be because nobody can figure out SS protection.
No, it doesnt.
The article in question cites a source in the NY corrections who believes it’s a possibility that preparations have been made.
The Secret Service kept Trump safe at the DMZ, which despite the name is actually the most heavily militarized zone on Earth. So I would imagine a jail cell would be a trivial logistical issue by comparison.
Where they can carry guns, and ensure a security cordon.
Follow the link in your cite to the actual article referenced. Here’s the key quote:
My emphasis. The author of your cite provides a clunky paraphrase. Per CBS (hence my “reportedly”), that discussion has already taken place in preparation for Trump possibly being tossed in Riker’s for contempt. The “possibility” is Merchan sends him to the slammer, not that officials (including the Secret Service) have conferred on the matter. Per CBS, they have.
IOW, it was (and is) a possibility they had to quickly figure out. CBS’s source would presumably have added that it was a 30-second discussion when the powers-that-be shut it down as impermissible, were that the case.
So tell us why the Secret Service wouldn’t be able to protect him in prison. Or if you’re quoting from some other source, quote where they say why.
Guilty on all 34 counts … OhByTheWay.
This shit just got real.
Why is this thread more than 100 posts? Yes, of course the secret service would follow Trump to prison. Prison is a dangerous place and it’s their job to protect him. And if course they would work ordinary shifts and go home at night (or during the day) when each one isn’t working. And if they like him, they’ll probably smuggle odds and ends for him, too.
He’s not going to be shanked in prison.
I wonder if we’d learn his height and weight?
It shouldn’t be a problem if they have to build a new prison just for him. I hear New York has a windfall of more than half a billion dollars. Using some of that to imprison him would be true justice.
Alcatraz is mostly empty. Slap up some plexiglass to separate him from the tour groups. Also have a Trump add-on on the tour group tickets to pay for it.
ETA: Sorry @scudsucker . I see the idea was mentioned before.
It has no prisoners and no working facilities.
Must be some working plumbing for the tourists.
There is a vast and huge difference than overnite in a JAIL- where trump could be given a private cell- and a year in PRISON.
They simply said the idea is “That would be problematic across the spectrum.”. Not Impossible. I didnt make that claim.
I said- it is not gonna happen, due to the issues.
Is is possible? Sure. But it will not occur.
If Trump gets prison time—not at all a given—he will have a private cell. Hell, he might have a private facility, with him the only inmate.
He will never be remotely near a general prison population. Or even a prisoner. He wouldn’t be going to Oz. As @puzzlegal said, put any worries about Trump getting shanked aside. All of the logistical challenges you described are easily resolved.
Sure. But unless he is kept in Solitary- which is a violation of his rights, he will have to exercise, eat and shower with general population.
I guess they could build him a special prison just for him. But they wont. They could fly him to the moon and build a moon prison. that wont happen either.
As the cite said- it it too problematic. He will be given house arrest or even supervised release.
Trump will not be sentenced to prison. I know that is our fantasy, but it wont happen.
I suppose if he breaks the terms of his suspended sentence, they would have to do something- close house arrest, no phones, no internet maybe.
Whatever you say.
