Trump Pressured Georgia Official to ‘Find’ Enough Votes to Overturn Election

I think you misunderstood me. I’m not upset that they’re showing unedited video. I’m upset that the videos of this event are so brutal that they require such a warning. And they’re not wrong - some of them really are that brutal.

Violent seditious conspiracies aren’t pretty.

And now I’ve seen claims from Mark Meadows that Trump offered to send 10,000 national guard soldiers to the capitol days before January 6 and was refused each time. So you see, we’ve got it all wrong. Trump in his infinite wisdom wanted troops there that day but he was thwarted by others.

Ay, there’s the rub. With the first impeachment, it was made clear that they can’t convict a sitting president. Now it’s you can’t convict a president who’s already left office. In other words, you can’t ever convict Trump.

I’m hoping we don’t see anything worse than we have, but given some of the injuries suffered by police, some of which are actually maiming, we might.

But what Mark Meadows didn’t say was Trump changed his mind when they told him the National Guard wasn’t allowed to help his ragtag army sack the Capitol and lynch Congress.

Remember, blue lives matter!

Blue lives matter when they’re attacking black people. When they’re trying to stop domestic terrorism by the right, well, the police shouldn’t have gotten in the way and anything that happens is clearly their fault.

Blue lives blather, basically.

To be fair, I think they would say that he can be charged criminally now that he’s no longer in office. Even for crimes he committed while he was President. The DOJ’s opinion statement that a sitting president can’t be charged is because of the conflict inherent in that. Now that he’s not President, that doesn’t apply.

Nope, I think they will pivot to: “You can’t charge him criminally now, since he was found “not guilty” by the Senate.”

Giuliani, Eastman, Graham among those subpoenaed in Georgia election probe - CNNPolitics

things are heating up in georgia. i do hope they can pin something on graham.

Oh, that’s good news, indeed. The direct witnesses right below Trump, and the ones who would have discussed these matters with him face-to-face.

I somehow don’t see guys like Giuliani and Eastman going Full Manafort to protect the Consigliere. Graham seems to blow with the wind, too.

Help me out here. In the case of the House 1/6 hearings these folks have been allowed to ignore subpoenas from the committee because there isn’t really any way to enforce them unless DOJ gets involved. HOWEVER, in this case, these yahoos don’t have any option BUT to show up and testify. Is this in fact correct?

I guess the Governor of Georgia could pardon all of them but that strikes me as likely to be politically
untenable, even in Georgia. So is there any way for them to escape showing up for this grand jury testimony?

I see Giuliana going full blown insane, with machine oil dripping down his face, until smoke pours out his ears and the gears just grind together.

Alternatively, he’ll simply refuse to go, or plead the 5th throughout, including the question “what is your name”?

The Fifth will take you only so far. I think Giuliani prefers a different sort of fifth these days.

Graham can give a very long speech in Congress which makes him unarrestable, but that’s about it. Not even the Trumpiest of governors would refuse a request from another state’s marshalls to produce a person to answer to a subpoena. Too much backsplatter.

My understanding is that the courts place a greater emphasis on judicial subpoenas than they do on legislative subpoenas, because legislative subpoenas are seen as more political in nature, and not truly essential for the legislative branch to pass laws. Congress doesn’t need to hear testimony to exercise its law-making power.

Judicial subpoenas, on the other hand, are essential for the courts to operate, because they can’t run a trial without witnesses.

I think they’ll attempt at least to simply not show up.

“You have to answer a subpoena, or you’ll get arrested!”

“Sure but… what if we didn’t?”

They’ve broken so many laws with no consequences, I think they’ll just keep doing it. Why not? Their goal is to destroy the functions of the country.

i believe they will go with contempt, then monetary daily fine, rather like what ny has done with trump. they may go to arrest, but monetary fine first. very few people have the resources to withstand thousand + dollars at day fines.
