Trump trying to rush approval for firing squads for federal executions

What does this mean?

Thank you . I am puzzled too.

Apologies - the jaunt reference is from this Stephen King short story: The Jaunt - Wikipedia

That hack flat out stole that from The Stars My Destination a science fiction novel by American writer Alfred Bester published in 1956, 25 years before.

Oh.
TIL.
Will check out.

It’s very, very good, a classic that has earned that reputation and yet remains a blast to read.

I also very much enjoy Bester’s Demolished Man.

King doesn’t clam to have invented the concept. I think it’s a great short story.

I’m glad you came back to explain. I’d simply assumed you’d been dictating your typing and between voice to text & auto-spell correct, silliness had ensued.

I had never heard of any of these stories before. Good to learn about.

And to your original post, I agree withthe ETA. To T, almost eternity with nothing to give orders to and nothing to fawn at him would be Hellish.

King didn’t “steal” anything, except possibly the single word “jaunt” as a descriptor for teleportation. The major plot point and ending of King’s The Jaunt has nothing to do with Bester’s novel. Anyway, a total digression here so I’m done. I enjoyed King’s short story.

Yes, this is just Trump being Trump – ever obsessed with the death penalty, even for the innocent. He still refuses to acknowledge that his full-page ads taken out in 1989 calling for the execution of the Central Park Five was a horrific mistake, even after they were fully exonerated and awarded $41 million in compensation by the City of New York. Trump’s reasoning is that from the looks of them, they were definitely guilty of something, even if not this particular crime. Truly, the man is a prince, not to mention a master of jurisprudence and philosophy.

Even when asked about it again when Don Jr said, seemingly defending Kyle Rittenhouse’s actions in Kenosha, ‘we all do stupid things when we’re 17’.

Did he give credit to Bester?

Yes, according to the Wiki article that was linked earlier:

The term “Jaunting” is stated within the short story to be an homage to The Stars My Destination , a science fiction novel by Alfred Bester.

So use of the term was an acknowledged tribute, rather than a steal.

Ok, then I apologize to Mr King.

Just like in Charlottesville… and Omaha Beach.

Say what you will about the guillotine, it’s really cutting-edge technology.

Go and stand in the corner.

chop chop!

You Sir, should be cut from this thread.

Don’t let it go to your head.
