$5 Billion is a rounding error in the amount that an actual 2000 mile wall would cost. This isn’t political. It’s just a fact. If the wall were limitlessly funded right now, it would not be possible to complete it in the 2 years of the presidency that he currently has secured. He would only be able to claim the political victory, not necessarily be in office to see it finished.
Therefore, as far as I can tell, the wall is dead. There will be no wall. This is just how reality works.
Speaking of reality, 90% of drugs come through the ports of entry. More than 66% of migrants come through the airports. (Airplanes can fly over the wall, FYI.)
In other words, even if the wall existed today & was 100% effective, it would still not significantly impact the areas of most concern to the MAGA people. The cost to benefit ratio just doesn’t support the idea of a wall. It just doesn’t.

No way. The best thing that could happen would be for Schumer to imitate Vincente Fox’s video where he bluntly declares, " Mexico will never pay for your fukin wall!", and holds up handwritten signs saying the same in case the point isn’t fully grokked. That might get through Trump’s addled brain.
Congress passed a clean CR, and Trump refused to sign it. This whole thing is Trump’s baby. Let all the GOP congressional leaders patiently explain to a skeptical public why taking a stand on an issue that every informed person knows is stupid is so important we’re shutting down the government over it. Allow the sheer stupidity of Trump and his supporters fester in the sunlight for as long as they want. Expect shame to drive any “smart” conservatives away from this trainwreck of a charlatan’s party, and then drive the whole shitshow into marginalized minority peanut gallery status where they belong in 2020.
Impose sensible policies after that. Refuse to listen to the right wing gnashing of teeth, “You guys are stalwart idiots to a man, remember? We have the video.”
Exactly. If he makes it through, the hallway is deficient as a barrier. Tweak it to be harder and run him through again. Repeat until he fails; since he’s the best maze runner there ever was, we’ll know then the hallway will surely stop anybody else.
