I suppose my overall point was/is that it seems to me that many folks here post things like “After this latest trump outrage / foible / unintelligble soundbite [insert it here], clearly all support for the guy will evaporate to zero.”
And my point back to those triumphalists is that the hardcore won’t budge; they’re all in and will remain all in. Largely because they will never even learn of whatever thing some leftie is crowing about as the coup de grace for trump’s entire following.
So in a sense you and I agree completely: the MAGA core, however large it is, is pretty much fixed and immune to persuasion. Where we differ is in what else we’re talking about and which implied question we’re supplying an answer to.
Fox News would give in instantly if he asked for a prime time spot to have a town hall. It’s all about ratings for them. They don’t give a crap about his lawsuits. After all it’s all a withhunt anyway.
Hannity and Ingraham would give up their time slots in a heartbeat for the Dear Leader.
And getting an audience of mouth-breathing MAGAts in a studio would happen in no time. Just run a couple of busloads in from Staten Island.
Ok. My mistake. To clarify, I was talking about Fox News not wanting more fuel for the defamation lawsuits against them. Giving Convict Donald 90 minutes of unopposed airtime would be a disaster in that regard since he can’t stay on topic and thinks out loud.
I have consistently emphasized that it’s about eroding Trump’s support among “independents.”
I do think that he can lose his MAGA support as well, inasmuch as such support is based on group-think and group-feeling and not any kind of grounded politics, philosophy, or principles. If we Democrats lose a particular politician, we are still Democrats. If they lose Trump, they have nothing. And they will lose him not only if he dies (after which MAGA dies) but also if he just doesn’t feel like the strongman any more. That day is approaching at high speed.
I think that was more about Fox as a “professional” news organization systematically buying into Trumpian lies and pushing out that message and less about simply relaying Trump’s and his surrogates’ words.
IIRC, since the lawsuits they’ve cut off guests (including Trump in a phone interview) who started veering into election conspiracy territory. They don’t want to touch the topic with a ten-foot pole, but if he brings it up in a live town hall they’re gonna have trouble steering him away from that.
OMG, our friend Ben Meiselas reports on how the surrogates (including fascist scumslice Don Jr.) are gunning hard to make debate (mushroom) pullout excuses:
I was getting ready to post a segment of that video.
Dr. Ronnie Jackson and Don Jr. discuss how difficult it is for Bidens handlers to get the right cocktail of drugs to make him functional but not overly aggressive.
