Of course not. Trump does not use a computer or email because his understanding of “the cyber” is limited to his fake Twitter account.
I think I was the one that started this tangent about trump walking up to bidens podium, so I’ll attempt to wind it down:
Trump walking up to bidens podium was one scenario among several that I suggested could happen due to trump’s frustration. And I agree it’s at the more extreme end of the scenarios.
…but not that extreme. Remember how he stalked Hillary. And I didn’t mean actually wrench at the mic; what I’m suggesting is he may try to shout, realize that no one can hear him still, and so walk nearer to bidens podium and try again.
But anyway, we’ll see very soon. I’m quite happy to admit I was wrong if trump doesn’t do any of these things.
I am sure Trump’s handlers are schooling Trump about the debate and how to behave. I’d say I don’t envy them their job but they chose to work for that asshole so they get what is coming.
The question to me is, has anyone figured out the calculus required to moderate Trump? My guess is Trump is just too chaotic. There is no telling where he will go and no amount of coaching that will stop it.
I hope Biden’s handlers are coaching Biden on how to provoke Trump into an incoherent tirade.
The difference is that that was a podium-less debate where the candidates were permitted to walk around, and Clinton was a woman, which to Trump means she is inferior by default and can be bullied more aggressively than he ever would dare to do to a man.
But I’m glad I’m not the only sane person here not jumping on this bandwagon.
It appears that you believe that someone standing next to a podium can’t be heard on the microphone attached to that podium. That is not correct. The person standing next to the podium can also be heard over the mic. There would be no need for Trump to displace Biden in order to be heard.
Given your belief, it’s easier to understand the position you’ve taken on this, including your assumption that Trump would have to lay hands on Biden (to move him away from the podium) in order for Trump to be able to be heard over that podium’s mic. (Or the situation you mention in this particular post–the claim that Biden would have to “meekly back away” for Trump to be heard over that mic.)
Again, I don’t believe your assumption is correct. Trump can saunter over and talk and talk and talk while Biden remains at his own podium, with Trump being heard over the mic attached to Biden’s podium, simply by standing next to it. No need to displace Biden.

No, the topic was introduced a day before you posted. Your post was #403, while the first post on the topic was #375:
FWIW…mics can be very directional or omni-directional or whatever they want.
I have no idea what they will use in the debates but I suspect they are somewhat limited in the cone of sound they will pick up so they get a good recording of the candidate and not much interference from extraneous sources.
How close someone would need to be to the mic for it to pick them up I do not know but it can be pretty narrow if they want it to be. I’d guess they have considered Trump shouting from his podium and would want to limit the pickup from Biden’s mic.
Looking at photos from the primary debates CNN sponsored, it looks like they use a combination of stick mics and lapel mics;
I’m not a.sound engineer but it seems to me that you’d have to lean in pretty close to be heard on that mic if you’re not standing right in front, unless those mics are just props and the lapel mic is where the actual sound is coming from (in which case the mental image of Trump yelling into Biden’s chest is too ridiculous to take seriously).
I posted this in the VP thread. On the NBC Nightly News Trump said he knew who he is picking for VP and they will be at the debate. I’m wondering if he will use the debate to announce his pick. That would do two things for him. It will get him headlines, maybe the main headline. It would also use up some time that he won’t have to use his to make up an answer.
It’s an easy answer. Trump ordered his cronies in Congress to kill the bill to help at the border. All his fault.
It’s obvious that Trump will hammer two subjects, immigration and inflation. Of course he will blame Biden for both. Until November that’s going to be the Republican ads. Biden needs to have both intelligent answers and quick sound bites for both subjects. Trump won’t have intelligent answers but he’ll probably have sound bites.
I now have a delightful image of Trump talking into a muted stick mic at Biden’s podium while Biden calmly talks into his own lapel mic.
I thought (and may have said at the time) that Clinton should have pointed out his lurking and laughed at him and mocked him.
I don’t think Trump will try the creep shit on Biden. Biden isn’t his type.
And just for the record, the debate is taking place in Atlanta, so per GA Code § 16-5-20 (2022);
So yes, if Trump attempted to menacingly approach Biden and deprive him of the use of his microphone, that would be assault under the relevant statutes, notwithstanding whatever federal offense he would be committing by menacing the president.
nevermind
As far as mics go, they’re mostly unidirectional for debates. Now add a noise gate and set it to “orange noise”.
If true, then I believe that settles it. Convict Donald is usually smart enough to listen to his lawyers, and I have a feeling one of them is going to pull him aside before the debate and tell him something along the lines of “If you lay a hand on him, get in his face, try to get at his microphone, or so much as get close to him, you WILL go to jail TONIGHT”, and he’ll be on his best Big Boy Behavior (by which I mean pouting like a five-year-old whenever it’s not his turn).
If Trump comes over to Biden’s podium, Biden should just say, “Donald seems to have wandered away again. Can someone come and lead him back to where he’s supposed to be?”
There is a fine line between being peevish and zinging your opponent.
Comedians are expert at zingers to hecklers or misbehaving people in the audience. Politicians are almost universally terrible at it. They come across as stilted, forced and trying too hard.
I’d love to see it done well against Trump, I just do not believe Biden (or most politicians) can pull it off well enough.
His lawyers are smart enough to tell him what he wants to hear.
I’m pondering how CNN will frame the debate. By that I mean how they’ll frame the shots as the candidates are talking. Do they include trump in the shot while Biden is talking so that the world can see his infantile antics (look at ME! pay attention to ME!), or do they do a close-up of the speaker when it’s his turn?
On the one hand, I hope CNN doesn’t give trump a single iota of extra attention by airing footage of him bloviating silently and gesturing wildly, making faces and shaking his head while Biden is speaking. On the other hand, there may be a (vanishingly) few voters who see his toddler tantrums and decide he’s too unhinged to vote for.
