Trump will not debate Biden on June 27, 2024, or thereafter either

You may well be right in this characterization.

But what that boils down to is: boring.

And for Trump, reviews that are headlined “boring” would be a nightmare of, yes, horrifying proportions. He will much prefer that people spend their time focusing on the Veepstakes.

Always the self-aggrandizing showman! But also a habitual liar, so I’d put the odds very high that this kind of meaningless unprovable claptrap is almost certainly untrue.

He’ll be there now. I agree that giving Biden 90 minutes to answer questions and rip Trump is too risky.

“Trump the Coward” would be the take away.

Moist Americans apparently disagree with the thread proposition:

Most Americans plan to watch the Biden-Trump debate

Even though I am pro-pollster, this one does sound ridiculous. While I don’t necessarily want to see clips, walking around a house where others watch TV, it will be hard to avoid.

As to whether this indicates high interest in the debate, or the election, who knows? A quick 2020-limited google search failed to find a comparable poll from four years ago.

 I will dryly watch it.

I would have corrected that, but I’ll keep it as is so your post makes sense.

Personally, I don’t want to see it, dry, moist, or sopping wet.

I took tomorrow off work specifically so I could watch, so Convict Donald had BETTER not chicken out or my evening is ruined.

Though that’s not about assessing whether Trump will show; it’s about stating the percentage of Americans who plan to watch.

I plan to watch too! As I’ve said, I do hope the debate takes place.

Re my OP… Trump’s approach to this whole thing–no surprise–has been messier than the diarrhea in his diapers. Instead of just saying he’ll debate and showing up, it’s been an infinite amount of negative, cope-y messaging from him and his surrogates.

He’s gonna get slaughtered at the debate, and he and everyone else knows it. He seems weak as fuck, and his cognitive glitching is worse than ever. The decline is rapid, the insanity is extreme even for Trump.

I think now his chance of ditching is about 25%–still palpable.

My sentiments in post #607. If the headline comedian doesn’t show up it’s a bust. I have a party planned.

“Biden, why did you personally kill those people by allowing those the killer illegals to enter the country? I will stop them all!”

Right. As if there were no murders by undocumented immigrants in the years 2017 - 2021.

That fact does not matter. Voters are clearly not interested in facts.

It’s all MEMES ‘n’ TINGS dese days, yo!

It’s kind of amazing that less than 24 hours out now you are still clinging to this idea that he might cancel. He’s obviously going to be there. You were wrong - no big deal, we’re all wrong about stuff all the time.

But I do wonder when Trump shows up tomorrow and doesn’t flame out spectacularly, if it will cause you to take a moment and re-evaluate this:

This is much of the basis of your argument in your other thread about Trump not being the GOP nominee. I really, really wish you were right about this, but you’re not. He is not going to crash out of this debate or this campaign because of dementia/Alzheimers/what-have-you. It’s a dream. I wish it would happen (in fact, I literally had a dream months ago that he shat himself on stage at a rally and it caused him to withdraw).

In any sane world the GOP and the voters in this country would have abandoned him long ago, but it will not happen before the election, which he stands a terrifyingly good change of actually winning. We will not be saved by this kind of deus ex machina.

A few weeks ago I was fairly sure Trump wouldn’t debate Biden. As the debate draws ever closer, I revised my thinking and now believe it is more likely that Trump will show up. There’s still a little doubt in the back of my mind though. It’ll certainly surprise me if Trump cancels but it won’t shock me.

We’re long past the point of thinking there’s something that Trump can do to turn his core followers away from him. While I was never a Trump supporter, it wasn’t until January 6, 2021 that I realized his core supporters would follow him if he rebelled against God and laid siege to heaven itself. That’s what you get for going woke, Lamb of God. You’re right. The GOP is not going to abandon Trump no matter how poorly he does in the debate. They will do what they’ve been doing for the last 8 years, burying their heads in the sands and ignoring all the warning signs from Trump.

Right now, I’m leaning toward a version of Czarcasm’s (and others to be clear) interpretation:

Much like when Trump walked out of the 60 Minutes Interview. In fact, I could see him make his first statement or so, expecting that the moderators may be slightly hesitant to mute him right off the bat, and then the moment it’s Biden’s turn to speak, to try to talk over him, if muted (as he should be) he’ll do the whole “throw up hands in air”, leave, and have a rally on the steps where he’ll tell his fans that he was winning so they silenced him. And if he does a half-way decent job on his one opening rant, that’ll all that Fox will have to play, and CNN will have a much harder time rebutting his performance since he just walked away after a single statement.

When the debate happens, I will come in here and say, “I was wrong.”

Is it “amazing,” though? He has pissed (and shit in his diaper) and moaned until the very end. He’s a pathetic POS.

If he shows up and does flame out, I hope you will come to this thread and say, “I was wrong,” yourself!

Any particular reason for your confidence beyond the “Trump is just invulnerable!” trope?

If he is actually on the ballot, he is going to lose massively. No god from the machine necessary, my friend.

It all comes down to game theory, really. They are fascists, and he is their Hitler, and they are going for broke. If he wins, great! They will support his evil reign. If he loses, they will scurry like rats into the crevices. Oops, never mind all that. They have earned the name “deplorable,” and the stain on their character is eternal.

I think so, too, but there are presumably knowledgeable observers out there who still think Trump is going to wimp out. There’s a recent op-ed in USA Today where the writer is convinced Trump won’t show because he knows it would be a disaster for him, though I don’t think either of those things is true. Trump will not perform well because he’s a moron, but as always it will be good enough for his idiot supporters. I was going to link to the op-ed but Discourse informs me that @Mahaloth already posted a link upthread. The article was published very recently, either yesterday or Monday.

He’s gonna have to announce that rally about a week ago if he expects any MAGAs to be loitering around CNN HQ on Techwood Drive on a Thursday evening.
