For us white guys, we only really experience it on public transport, where it is generally used to suggest unfortunate things about our mothers. @MrDibble is probably well versed in this, though he has never, as far as I know, referered to someone as “as low as a snake’s shits’s shadow” which is a charming epithet which I would apply to Mr. Trump.

I’ve seen people pointing out that when Winston Churchill visited the White House during WWII he wore coveralls instead of a suit because his country was at war.

Well that exact point was put to Nigel Farage (a UK Trump-apologist) and he just replied that Churchill wasn’t meeting Trump.
The implicit suggestion (since Farage was being very critical about Zelenskyy’s choice of attire) is that he would be criticizing Churchill if he had worn army fatigues to meet Trump. He wasn’t really pressed on it though, because firstly he managed to just gallop on to the next point and secondly the interviewer is a friend of Farage.

I keep hearing this situation described as negotiations, or in Trump’s phrasing, a deal. And yet no one explains what’s being negotiated or dealt. The U.S. wanted some promise of access to rare minerals from Ukraine, right? What was Trump offering in return?

I think we should yake Donald’s word that his feelings were hurt by Zelenskyy’s attire. The President is a special little snowflake.
What would have been hilarious is if Zelensky* had shown up to the meeting in a dark blue suit, white shirt, and red tie that extended down to his crotch (where I suspect one would find sizable, functioning cojones).

Whether or not the Oval Office scene was ‘scripted,’ I believe it was never going to turn out any other way than how it did. Trump is simply too puerile, petty, vindictive, pathologically insecure, and volatile.

I forget if I already posted about this-
I know I said that I was able to sit through more than 60 seconds of a clip of Vance and Trump interrupting Zelenskyy and shouting over him. That was on the 6:30 NBC national news.
Later, I turned on the local Fox 29 (note this is simply the local Fox affiliate that shows The Simpsons and other programs) local news at 10. They showed another clip. Zelenskyy was attempting to say something. Trump responded by shouting “You’re not allowed to talk! You’re not allowed to talk!” Yet the MAGA crowd still thinks he is a fantastic negotiator and a master strategist.
We are doomed.
