Trump's first 100 days

Trump put out a lot of rhetoric during the campaign. Much of it best forgotten.

His first 100 days Speech at Gettysburg, Pa. is the best thought out and detailed speech he gave. It’s a good indication of what to expect.

Congress will have it’s say too. Trump won’t get everything he asks for. Our system of checks and balances has never been more important.

Can we at least try to discuss these points without injecting too much negativity into the discussion? The election is a fait accompli.

Which points do you see the Republican Congress passing. Partially? or Entirely?

Which points won’t pass?

I’m very encouraged that the Keystone Pipeline and other energy projects will be allowed to go forward. That should easily pass in the Congress.

Hiring Freeze for Federal Workers. That’s been done before? Is that done by Executive Order?

Affordable Childcare and Eldercare Act. I’m very excited by this plan. Ivanka convinced her dad to include it. I think it’ll pass with a few revisions. Congress will want their own version.

Restoring National Security Act. Rebuilding our military. Congress will support that.

Restoring Community Safety Act. Ditto. Congress will pass some version of this.

Trump will face some huge hurdles. Congress needs to do it’s job and reject bad proposals.
This seems unreasonable imho. Politicians need to make a living after leaving office. Their job skills and expertise are in politics.

“FOURTH, a 5 year-ban on White House and Congressional officials becoming lobbyists after they leave government service;,”

I strongly dislike term limits. I’ve seen too many experienced politicians, that do a great job, are forced out of state office. They are often replaced by partisan people that get nothing done. I really hope Federal Term limits for Congress fails.
America’s decaying infrastructure has to be fixed. It’s reaching a critical point. It can take a year or two to replace just one bridge. We don’t want things falling apart faster than we can replace them.

BUT we can’t take the money from climate change programs. That has to stay funded.
“SEVENTH, cancel billions in payments to U.N. climate change programs and use the money to fix America’s water and environmental infrastructure”

For the first six measures he mentions:

[li]Term limits: Constitutional amendments are very hard to pass. Aside from a constitutional conventions (which has never happened), amendments need 2/3 approval in both the House and Senate. This one’s probably a completely nonstarter; I don’t think there’s anything McConnell would want to trade for it.[/li][li] Hiring freeze: Bit of a blunt hammer. In 2014, only about 17% of federal spending was for non-defense discretionary spending. [/li][li] Removing two federal regulations for each one added: This is just silly. It’s like saying that for every new law, two would have to be removed. Like laws, regulations vary widely in scope from bureaucratic minutae to sweeping financial rules, and they vary in reasonableness from payouts to lobbyist to important protections. The goal is not to get down to zero regulation; I like clean air and safe medicines.[/li][li] Ban on post-government lobbying. This is great, but I don’t think McConnell will let it pass either. [/li][li] Lifetime ban on foreign government lobbying. Sounds good, though it may be a bit hypocritical on Trump’s part.[/li][li] Ban on foreign lobbying. Also sounds good. This one might be an easier sell than the above, but I suspect isn’t trickier than it looks; McConnell is not friendly to campaign finance reform.[/ul][/li]
I’m far less fond of the other items, but this post is long enough as it is. Of course, we’ll see how much of this actually gets proposed or put into effect.

His plan is more of a two term plan than a 100 days plan, especially given how slowly the Republicans usually move on anything but tax cuts. Even in Reagan’s time, Republicans tended to go slow with the legislative process. Although anything that can be done by executive order can be done in 100 days.
