Eh, my memory is a little fuzzy there. I thought that many valiantly “tried” to have their staffers read it and give them the Cliffnotes version, but it was biblical in terms of number of pages and couched in so much legalese that nobody could understand it. I see no indication of mental deterioration. I vote with the people who have said in one way or another that Trump has NEVER cared about facts or telling the truth, or keeping his word. He believes in schmoozing and being born rich, and taking credit for everything positive someone else arranges, and refusing to accept responsibility for the many messes he creates.
I see in his most fanatic supporters, the exact same behavior and energy I see in young fanatics followers of teen idols and the like: they will rearrange the very fundamental laws of physics and the universe, if that’s what it takes to excuse or explain away their god’s gaffs.
If you want to classify that kind of thing as mental illness, I wont object too strongly, but then I’ve come to recognize that there are a LOT more mentally “off” people loose in the world than I ever thought there were.
But I’m not talking about his profound lack of truthfulness, or his inability to care. It’s his forgetfulness that concerns me, and which seems to be increasing.
I’d argue that what’s increasing are the laundry list of things he’s supposed to be keeping track of and able to speak sensibly about. Meantime his capacity is unchanged, or perhaps slightly reduced just due to stress and lack of sleep compared to his pre-election norm.
IOW the sack’s the same size it ever was, but a lot more shit’s being stuffed in and so a lot more is spilling out onto the floor.
if you focus on the growing pile on the floor it’s easy to misdiagnose a shrinking sack. Especially when dealing with one that started out far, far below normal size for somebody in his position.
