Trump's new cabinet

Heh. Cameron was notoriously crooked, and Lincoln was warned of this by another Penna. politician before making the appointment. Lincoln asked him just how crooked Cameron was.
The politician thought for a moment and said, “Well, I don’t suppose he’d steal a hot stove…”

Per CNN, Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) will be a NO on Pete Hegseth.

The one Republican with a backbone. I’ve been hoping she’d run for President since 2016

Susan Collins (R-ME) is also a NO on Hegseth.

Are they both deeply concerned?

So a doormat on SCOTUS nominees but strong on Cabinet nominees?
She voted yes on Kavanaugh but no on De Vos and Hegseth
Murkowski vote no on De Vos and Hegseth and was part of a live pair on Kavanaugh

And Hegseth is confirmed:

His nomination is advanced. There’s one more step to the confirmation vote scheduled for tomorrow. Right now, the Senate, the “World’s Greatest Deliberative Body”, is busy orating, deliberating, searching their souls for how to vote on such an important issue…

Who am I kidding? John Thune is spending time tonight calling the other 50 senators in his caucus to make sure none of them are getting cold feet and need “The Musk Treatment”, a quick reminder of how much they don’t want a primary opponent to appear one to five years from now.

Although with Musk’s nose out of joint after Trump’s “THERE’S NO CO-PRESIDENT I’M THE PRESIDENT” move on AI, I’m not sure how scary that particular threat may be.

Some of those reluctant to confirm the drunk who cratered the only two businesses he’s “run” may be willing to take their chances. It’s not as though Trump would be willing to pay for them to be primaried, himself…

The vote was 51-49

So, out of 53 Republican Senators, 51 voted for him. That puts him, one of the worst appointees this year, at a Gaetz rating of 0.038.

I hold out some hope for McConnell. As odious as he is, I don’t think he wants to mess up the DOD that badly and IIRC he’s not running for reelection so he doesn’t have to worry about being primaried and Trump already hates him.

Yeah - 53 Rs allows them to be deeply concerned on various issues - at least when it doesn’t matter.

She’s free to vote no if she knows the nominee will pass anyway. They needed her vote for Kavanaugh, so she voted yes, but they didn’t need it for Hegseth. It’s as simple as that.

Exactly.

She keeps her “independent” cred, the GOP Senate keeps a seat from Maine in its caucus, and Donald Trump gets his SecDef. Everybody* wins!

* Except, you know, the country.

I think an unqualified drunk, sexual harassing, abusive womanizer who couldn’t manage a couple of small businesses or get security clearance is exactly what the US needs as a Secretary of Defense. What could possibly go wrong?

Also, he’s tied to an ultra-right Christian Nationalist group that wants to take over government.

Well, the President too, but at least the SecDef is not a known insurrectionist so there’s that.

And destroy Muslim holy sites in Jerusalem to facilitate the Second Coming.

He certainly seems to do a lot of adultery for someone supposedly so Christian. Wasn’t he still married to someone else when he got his current wife pregnant, who was also still married to someone else?

Like father (Trump), like son (FoxNewsPersonality).
