Trump's new cabinet

Hegseth gets confirmed for Defense Secretary with three Republicans voting no – Murkowski, Collins and . . . Mitch McConnell. Vance had to cast the tiebreaking vote.

Sorry Mitch, too little, too late. History will not be kind to you no matter which side writes it.

So he ended up very slightly more Gaetz than that. Just over 0.05.

I was right about McConnell. Still odious but he is signaling that he no longer is going to express his fealty to Trump. I think he may also be a no on Gabbard. Again, still odious, still hate him but like John Roberts I think he is concerned about his legacy. Meanwhile, anybody taking bets on how long Hegseth lasts? I think the first time he gets drunk at work he’s out. Trump will excuse just about anything but drinking.

In the thread I started about who would be the first Trump cabinet member to leave, by choice or otherwise, I predicted Hegseth would last 4.2 Scaramuccis, or about 46 days. I still believe a revelation will emerge that’s so awful, possibly accompanied by photos or video (because he just strikes me as that kind of guy), that even the Republicans won’t be able to just blow it off. At that point Trump will throw him under the bus while claiming to barely know the guy.

Another possibility, though remote, is that he’s such a dick, that his behavior goads the military brass into staging a coup.

If you’re looking for Mitch’s comeuppance, it probably lies in his knowing that he’s gone in the span of a few years from being arguably the most powerful and influential Republican in the country to being utterly powerless as his party has been consumed by MAGA true believers whose policies and politics he mostly detests.

It’s not much of a comeuppance, but the wall is still a possibility depending on how far the MAGA revolution goes.

He is staying in, and the military will do as it is told, I’m afraid.

I, too, think that’s likely.

I do wonder how members of the military will deal with Hegseth’s being so open and so serial an adulterer, though. Adultery can (and does) end their careers; for him it was a selling point with the guy who put him in the job.

What is Article 134 UCMJ? - MilitaryLaw.com.

Considering the direction the SC has headed, I wonder about that.

Thought Pruitt, Sessions, Perry and some of that “old guard” would’ve been brought back in to the fold.

Scott Bessent, hedge fund manager, approved as Treasury Secretary:

Hegseth celebrated his confirmation by getting shitfaced.

Colbert played a clip about Kristi Noem walking out to talk to DHS while a song called “Hot Mama” played during her introduction and it seemed like it had to be fake news. From what I can tell, that really did happen. Jesus wept. As others have said, this isn’t a cabinet, it’s a junk drawer.

If we did something like that here, we’d be in for a well-earned mod-note or warning.

Can’t wait for our new Sec of Defense to come out while Margaritaville plays.

I wonder if he’s worried about being taken out back and shot if he doesn’t go along with the insanity.

I just saw Kristen Welker interviewing Kristi Noam. Dumbass wearing a cowboy hat (she actually uttered the phrase “there’s a new sheriff in town” :face_vomiting:) and made up like she’s doing a photo shoot for Cowboys and Idiots magazine. Why do all the women in this cult always look so thirsty? The hair extensions, puffed lips, and clown makeup don’t exactly add any credibility.

And they’re starting with a deficit anyway.

Billions and billions.

Dollars to donuts Trump has told her she’s fired if she doesn’t look “beautiful” enough.

I have said for a couple years now, Noem makes Sarah Palin look like a Nobel laureate.
If I worked in her department, I would call any project we had to kill, “Cricket”.
